Anyone know where I can get some internal hex 17mm need to make some replacement sprockets to replace the silly plastic Fiona sprockets
Plan b is to buy lots of 17mm hex sockets and cut up

Ah yes, I read the dimensions wrong.

The easiest way to replicate those would be to get the pilot bore sprockets that you need and find an engineering firm with a wire EDM machine to cut the internal hex.

Your local bearing supplier may know ware to get it done as they would regularly get pulleys bored and keyed for customers.

I believe all those scandinavian drills used the same shaft and sprockets. Try Les Carter at Pinchbeck. I bet he has planty

You can use a rotary broach in a lathe to do that shape over a short ish distance, as per this job. There should be someone with a lathe that can help, if not then PM me for a price. I have a pull type broach in the shed that's set up for another job. I could price for using that but it'll include buying the broaching tool as I don't have one... I don't think they are that much to buy.

Cheapie sockets at £3 a pop might work out the easiest imo.

Cheapo 17mm steel chainsaw/lawnmower spark plug sockets is what you are after.
Google a supplier in your locality .

Made a start today when socket came just waiting on plate wheels
Not quite cutting edge engineering but good enough for on farm bodgery

I'm sure some of the more ingenious mad men around here would find plenty of ways to bodge with a lathe, even if it's just welding a few brackets on the lathe and use it as a front weight.

Nah, this isn't the bodge thread, besides which... the amount of rust on that lathe is bordering on criminal - the engineers would be sobbing their hearts out!

Be more usable then.

Mine rust too, damp shop etc
I try to leave everything oily

Master plan is it move those things into the smaller room under the loft , rather than in big brick barn shop area. Enclosed , heatable , less dust grit .....

Not happened yet tho. Will need new loft floor .....
