The 2 oils don't mix very well, if the oil is old drop it all our & replace with hytran or universal if you want to save a few bob.
Change the filter as well while your on & then your good for another 1000 hours work.

This has come up quite regularly. I have used a Q8 dedicated tractor transmission oil in the rear end of an 895 for several years. It appears to fine. I think historically the IH Doncaster tractors had quite sophisticated transmissions/hydraulics and the universal oils of the 70s were not suitable so IH had their own blended specialist transmission oil. Plenty of warnings in that era not to use SUTOs.

Where do you drain the hydraulic oil on a international 584

are you sure you are clamping the right hose, there is a small hose going to a manifold of three pipes on the RH side of the battery , 2 pipes coming off it go to brake cylinders and the third returns into gearbox top , it needs clamping , this is for 84 series , also the one small hose that feeds this manifold has a restrictor/ filter in the pipe which sometimes blocks up

Hi yes I think I was clamping the correct hose ...I eventually got oil but with a lot of air but couldn't get it bled .....would it be sucking in air somewhere ..eg.. if the seals were bad I the master cylinder??

Try taking the small hose off that feeds the manifold and making sure it is clear , a welding rod will push the filter out with a bit if force , also make sure your mole grips or clamp are completely nipping the return tothe gearbox

You wouldn't have a picture of this hose that I need to check by any chance
Good advice given so far, take out the restrictor, it's got a filter and orifice, make sure neither is blocked.
You must push this small plastic filter our the hose from the brake feed side, not the oil cooler return side or you will wreck the filter.
If you dont want to risk taking it out simply take the hose off on the brake feed side, pop it in a small bottle, run the tractor for a minute and you should have about 1/3 of a pint give or take.

When I was working on these tractors back in day we used to fit a keep full reservoir from the later models, this helps keep air out of the brakes.

However IF you have a good supply of oil from the oil cooler return ( 1/3 pint ) as described you may as well see if your brakes will bleed up.
You must clamp the return hose that into the top of the transmission.
Then pop clear tubes from bleed nipples to rear filler plug.
Run engine at 1200 rpm, gently pump each brake a couple of times and then run until oil free of air is coming through the tubes.

If you are still having problems post back here.

It's hose number 4 has the filter orifice in.
If you do push it out and wreck the filter do not leave it out as its possible for the brakes to drag with to much oil feed.
I've also found a photo showing where to place a keep full reservoir if you wish to do so.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
