I think the R clip just holds the roll pin in - iirc its for adjusting the float on the arm - i think there are two machined rings on the shaft and the roll pin slides across either the upper or lower ring depending on how much float you want - tbh mine was so worn it just pulled apart and i put a fixed link on it - i will have a look at the manual and also see if i can find the old linkage and refresh my memory.

Thank you .l thought it might be something to do with float I played about with it at the weekend I’ve just got a drum mower and when I put it in mowing position the lift rod just slides up so the mower won’t lift up level did you weld yours up ?

Didnt weld it - i was in a hurry to so took it off and replaced it with a MF solid link i had lying around. Its been sitting somewhere waiting to be repaired for over 20 years now....

Edit - i think at the time i thought it needed the shaft turned 180 degrees and a new roll pin and that would mean the new roll pin would be contacting an unworn bit.

That’s a good idea to replace it with a solid one did you replace the whole lot or just the bottom bit are the threads the same ?

We had a 674 which did as yours when on a mower. There is a large nut inside the housing and the roll pin acts on a corner of it, preventing it (when not in float) from riding up and down. If you unscrew the lift arm the nut can be turned to expose a "sharper" corner thus preventing it from doing this.

Thanks peewit took it apart nut was flat like you said so turned it and put it back in now it all seems good .Thank you both for your replies
That's given me new impetus to repair the original and remove the MF one.... - i replaced the whole lot btw. Its still yellow as it was off an ex-council MF that was scrapped.
