Hi guys

New member here, I’ve just bought the above tractor, just for road runs Etc.

It’s pretty grotty at present and my intention is to fettle it piece by piece but try and keep it as usable as possible in between repairs.

The immediate jobs are

Brakes. The RH one doesn’t work, so a strip down and overhaul of the brakes is in order, also the handbrake is missing so reinstate this

Front tyres. One has a flap of rubber hanging off so I’ll probably replace both and blast/paint the wheels while they’re tyreless

Seat. The seat has a hole in the middle and is missing its“suspension” so repair and paint.

Im from a sheet metal/car body/ paint background so the repairs don’t phase me but I’m unsure what some parts should look like. I wonder if anyone can offer advice on the following:-

What colour should the wheels be on a 1964 model? I’ve seen red, red with silver rims and creamcoloured, I prefer the cream colour but is it correct for a 1964?

The seat has a staged dimple in the middle with a rusty ring riveted to it which presumably had a rubber cone to give somesuspension to it. Can anyone supply photos of an original seat so I can make the repairs look original. I’ll post up some photos when I can

Many thanks

Frank

This RH brake is always a problem. You will find it contaminated with oil. Hard to explain but there is a shaft within a shaft that operates the diff lock and is sealed with 0 rings. Remove the brake assembly for access and then you will find you can push in the collar surrounding the 'pimple' in the centre of the shaft to reveal a wire circlip. Remove this clip and a collar with a spring behind it will pull out. This will reveal the internal and external 0 ring which you cab now replace.
I made a tool similar to a valve spring compressor to push the collar against the wing to remove the circlip as it is very awkward to remove by hand.
Hope this helps

Thanks Tonym

I don’t think that’s my main problem as the pedal has no feel to it, it just sinks to the ground with no resistance, I will however check those seals while it’s dismantled

Engine is good ( it’s a replacement engine) I’ve irdered the 12v heater plug kit off eBay £70, wish I’d joined this forum earlier as I could have bought the heater plugs for £32! Ok I would have had to make the wires/busbar but thats no big chore

I suspect something amiss within the expander, but to remove it I’ll have to remove the roll bar, and may as well remove wheel arch while I’m at it as it’s the same bolts hold them on.

Yes it’s a key start too

all B275 models had round axle,
standard hydraulics were the same as the B250, but with the advent of the new B414, they were fitted with the all new British draft control hydraulics, they were called the vari touch system, and were offered as a factory fit option on the B275 from the early 60s,
the key start came in mid 60s and did away with the lever start,

Thanks for that info

My tractor is a 1964, I haven’t got the V5 yet, I applied 3 weeks ago and as I haven’t been rejected yet I’m hopeful they’ll issue it. One of the reasons I bought this tractor is that it has a local (to me) registration.

If anyone has any info, documents or old photos of B 275s I’d like to see them including sales brochures, hand books manuals etc.

Many thanks

Close!

I’m in Co Durham, in the beautiful tourist paradise that is Consett!

I believe DJR is/was a Newcastle registration, I’ll have to contact the local council and see if I can obtain details of who it was first registered to

What glow plugs have you ordered,
If standard original type make sure resistor is connected and working (the pepper pot thingy)(y)

Also a more reliable system in to use standard glow plugs the pencil type

The heater plugs you want are 12v ones and bypass the resistor( put both wires on one terminal) and leave off the earth at the radiator end.
The ones I used are Cargo 100295 and I think are a Mercedes fitment.
This will transform the starting.

hello tonym
I am not sure if I agree with you to bypass resistor as when the resistor glows red in the peppar pot you know it is time to start engine.... one more thing which I am not sure but someone will tell me is that the glowplugs are special fit only for IH

I forgot to say if everything is good with heater plug circuit the tractor will start ok even in cold conditions.... from 1976 to 1980 I worked at local IH dealer
