introduce myself

Hi everyone,
Im Nigel,
I am a self employed health and safety consultant in the south west.
I have been running my own business for the last 10 years, giving advice to landowners and farmers on health and safety.
If I can assist anyone with any advice or farm inspection, please give me a call or email. [email protected] or 07870518505

Hi, and thanks for your feed back.
Nobody said it's got to be expensive ,so that cover that 30%, and as for the 30% that think it shouldn't apply may have come across the health and safety consultant that reads it from the book instead of using common sense and looking at it through the eyes of the farming community which is what I do.
health and safety applies to all,and farming is no different. Farming shows that statistically a higher ratio of accidents and incidents on farms as there is to construction sites.
what happened to the other 40%.
All im saying is if I can be of service???

You can not get enough advice on health and safety,if you don’t it will come and bite you ? too many people have found this out , including myself , i was lucky one . Still to be HERE And I thought we was on top of our Game when it came to health and safety but accidents happen within a milli second so many people out there so blinkered and it will not happen to them ,but it does change your life upside down . Wish you luck in your venture with Farmers and machinery operators it will never happen to me attitude I don’t know why they are so scared of the health and safety when someone’s life is on the line.

thankyou for the kind words of support, you are completely right accidents happen in a millisecond, from turning over the Quad bike ,having limbs lost by being caught on moving machinery, being overcome by fumes to catching weil's disease, just a few that I have had to write reports on.
I am not like your normal health and safety guy, that walks in and tells you your doing it wrong because that's what the book says, I have been doing this job for many years now and have supported many through the changing the way they look at health and safety round the working farms, to carrying out discussions with the farm manager on how best to cover the health on safety.
If I can be of service to any of you in the farming community, then I am Happy to help.
My kindest regards to you
Barney Boy

No coment on farming H&S but in other industries its bought the country to its knees , its like an infectious rash . I aint getting into it with farming though no dought a lot if things i should never have done

Hi and thanks for your comments,
I would love to know what other industries it has bought to its knees, im intrigued to know what industries these are. I'm not on here to be a burden to any of you ,but only offering a service,if you are not interested in it ,then that's fine, and that's your decision, but please dont say its bought industries to its knees in this country, when the evidence points to better working conditions for most employees in england and wales and Scotland.
It has also reduced insurance claims against employers.
its people like you that come out with comments that do not have the evidence to back it up,so please let me know what industries it has bought to its knees in the country and I will be more than happy to investigate your claims to see if you are correct.
p.s how is Newcastle Emlyn cattle market now, done some health and safety work there to keep the market open for the farming community.
Oh and please give my regards to Gaynor and Medwyn Jones who farm between Rhydlewis and Newcastle Emlyn.;)

So whats the advice for plasters in First Aid Boxes
I thought you was going to give me the information of the industries that have been bought to its knees by health and safety, but obviously you can not do this because the evidence proves you are just one of those people that it will never happen to me brigade, and I really hope it doesn't happen to you or one of your employees if you have any that is.
Now as for the plaster in the first aid box.
if you do not know what a plaster is for then im afraid there really isn't any helping you then is there. and with this in mind ,I would probably think you should not be allowed to farm a bowl of cress.:)

Just one little bit of advice don’t get too personal there’s always people that you disagree with, but One day you might want their help.

So
Legislation
In the event of injury or sudden illness, failure to provide first aid could result in a casualty’s death. The employer should ensure that an employee who is injured or taken ill at work receives immediate attention.

HSE will prosecute in cases where there is a significant risk, a disregard for established standards or persistent poor compliance with the law. More information can be found in
HSE's Enforcement Policy Statement (PDF)- Portable Document Format.

Employers’ legal duties
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.

What is ‘adequate and appropriate’ will depend on the circumstances in the workplace. This includes whether trained first-aiders are needed, what should be included in a first-aid box and if a first-aid room is required. Employers should carry out an assessment of first-aid needs to determine what to provide.

The Regulations do not place a legal duty on employers to make first-aid provision for non-employees such as the public or children in schools. However, HSE strongly recommends that non-employees are included in an assessment of first-aid needs and that provision is made for them.

Further guidance can be found making adequate and appropriate provision for first aid in First aid at work: The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 - Guidance on Regulation.

Assessment of first-aid needs
Employers are required to carry out an assessment of first-aid needs. This involves consideration of workplace hazards and risks, the size of the organisation and other relevant factors, to determine what first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel should be provided.

Here you go ,something for you to digest.

come up against it all the time, some people you just cant help, and im afraid to say this is one of them.;)
Go and post your attitude sonewhere else , where did i say that H&S in farms was not needed, fitting roll bars in tractors was just one of the things they pushed for which as saved many lives . I had to pull a dead body from under a tractor not fitted with one
It was not me who said that
Uk H& S had created a "stultifying blanket of bureaucracy, suspicion and fear".

Hi you are starting to sound like an a Health and safety officer, you are starting to preach a little bit ,time to give it a rest , going around a bit the wrong way you have to get them on your side not against you . When I had my accident, I have helped a lot of people looking at it from a Different point of View telling them how it happened .Then they Could see it could happen to them I work with a lot of younger generation and they are more interested as they are working on their own a lot more as there is getting less people on the farms want to stay safe And want to return home I have realised talking to a lot of people who’s had accidents but it’s a case of just rushing too much getThings done ? My accident was caused by Hydraulic pipe fitting ,not fitted properly and letting a Hydraulic door down on me Nearly guillotining me Early in half . Do not trust hydraulics whatever people say they are still man-made and they can break least when you expect it.
