Welcome ,there is plenty of good bad and Damm ugly in here you will fit in somewhere I am sure,A belated introduction of myself...
I run what amounts to a hobby farm on just under 50 acres on the Sussex / Kent border. All arable and certified organic. I'm a tenant and one of the terms of the tenancy is that it is organic, though that's what I would do in any case. I only took it on in April 2016, so this year is my first full year.
I've got a full time day job working in environmental science and I'm a single parent, as well as running the farm. Whilst I grew up in the country and have always been interested in farming, I wasn't especially looking to take a farm on but found myself doing it almost by accident. It was an odd, and complicated, year involving getting divorced and becoming a farmer, neither of which I had expected only months / weeks before. Hey ho.
Oh and please dont ask which double cab to buy ,or is this tractor suitableA belated introduction of myself...

Aye.... all good fun and banterWelcome aboard. Yours if it's far from the smallest farm here so don't feel a fraud
You'll find TFF a gold mine of help and information if you can see past all the banter and folk with chips on their shoulders
Oh and watch out for the Lancashire possee, that's all I'll say (@Landyman and the rest of @Gator 's crew are diamonds really but we all like to wind them up a bit )
Welcome to the forum @Traffic dodger , plenty of folk in here that aren't farmers and plenty that pretend to be .Hi, just signed up. I used to many moons ago milk in in a 12/12 herringbone parlour, but things have moved on a lot since then and I no longer work on a farm. Now I just take an interest. Cheers
Welcome aboard. Plenty to be interested in on TFFHi, just signed up. I used to many moons ago milk in in a 12/12 herringbone parlour, but things have moved on a lot since then and I no longer work on a farm. Now I just take an interest. Cheers
Knowledgeable on here ,Just signed up as I'm in the process of buying a couple of old fields on a hill in Wales to grow Christmas trees. Idea being that I can grow an acre a year and then once they become harvestable in 6 years time, then I can give up the London day job and move there full time. I guess that makes me a farmer of sorts? Got loads of hard work coming up in the next few months, doing things I've never done before such as spraying, ploughing, rotovating, ditch digging, fencing & so on, so I'm sure there's a load of knowledgeable people on here that might be able to help. Also own a old farm in Donegal but we rent out the arable land and the rest is just too rough/rocky to clear. Plus its miles away...
What I have discovered so far is that I'm not eligible for BPS or Glastir grants Mind you, that keeps paperwork down

Welcome aboard. Join the club, many haven't a clue but we know how to convert our ignoranceHi i'm Sue, have spent 2 yrs recovering from buying a property that came with a bonus 11 acres. The locals have been amazingly friendly, not many hangings...Now we know where the water goes when it rains we are ready to do something with the land described as a 'play area' by the big boys. Will now lurk and read the pearls of wisdom on forums. We probably represent a typical farmers worst nightmare...townies moving for the good life who haven't a clue but hey we have had a go at the balsam and creeping thistle but am battling with the cuteness of rabbits and deer. x
