I’ve had an iPad for about 8 years which has been fantastic, use it a lot, poss way too much ! The battery is about stuffed so time for a new one.
Is the iPad Pro (11inch) worth the hefty premium over the iPad Air ? Main use is web , you tube, email usual stuff. Wonder if I might use iPad pen , which looks better on the pro......
I know there are other tablets but I’m just not bothered, more than happy with the IPad and the synch with iPhone is just plain handy.

I've had an ipad pro 11 for about 18 months and use it a lot. One of the reasons I went for the pro (upgraded from an orginal air) was the support for a geniune apple keyboard and the apple pencil. I use these both a lot but now you can get the keyboard with an air then the main difference is probably between apple pencil 1 and 2 and as you say there is a big price premium for the pro.

I’ve just treated myself to a pro. Main reason I went for it was that I fancy the new keyboard that’s out next month that features a trackpad.
I haven’t done much apart from www and emails but I do find it super quick and the screen resolution is awesome.

Out of interest what do you use the pencil for. I’ve never found the need.

If that's all you use it for the kindle fire comes in under 40£ so you can bin it when it's passed it's best.
Really are excellent value.

Really good for marking up plans or maps to forward onto people or annotating notes for myself. Great for handwritten lists etc either in Notes or OneNote, which then sync across to phone and computer. Or just as a mouse/pointer. I wouldn’t be without it!

Trouble with Apple stuff is the inbuilt obsolescence, I have an early ipad and there have been no updates or support for years, and now it's hardly usable. Bought the Mrs a Samsung tablet for a fraction of the price and she's very pleased with it.

I use an iPad Pro and have done for maybe three years. Don't use a pen or keyboard with it though. It's the biggest screen one. It's great but if you have lots of music, pictures, magazines and other large files, get the 256GB one as a minimum.

Bought an Amazon Fire for my 93 year old mother the other week. Sent it up to my daughter to install Playstore and configure sensible things for her grandmother who has never used such a thing before. Problem is that nobody but daughter has seen it since. When she is off work next I'll nag her to hurry up to get it sorted.
Wouldn't buy one myself as it has far too much Amazon rubbish installed, even though I paid extra to have the add-free version.

Apple supported the original iPad for about eight years and it still works fine for most apps. Since they went 64 bit [or something like that], all ipads can are regularly updated with security patches and operating system updates. With an android tablet or phone you will be lucky to have more than one update ever before support for the device ends. I know because I have several of both devices. My iMac for instance was bought in 2011, yet it is running the High Sierra 10.13.6 current operating system seamlessly. It and both phone and pad are also running various apps from Adobe, Microsoft, Google and Amazon, to name but a few, all with up to date app versions.
Am contemplating a new 27" iMac with 32GB RAM and i9 chip to last me the next ten years. Main reason being that when multitasking, my current beast has a relatively slow hard drive, processor and only 4GB ram. The new one would be specified with 1TB solid state drive and super-fast USB3 third generation for file transfers.

I can dream! It's something to look forward to in these bleak times.

There’s an iPad 2 (2011) in our house. Sits on the coffee table and gets used very regularly. Yes, it’s slow compared to an iPad Air I use for work. But to be honest it’s perfectly functional for browsing or emailing etc. Takes an age though to charge the battery...

Excuse me asking, which one did you purchase or perhaps your still deciding.
Are apple IPads the same price which ever store sells them?

How many GB (gigabytes) your Ipad have?
What amount of GB would you recommend for general farm business machinery operation , when buying an iPad?
Although yet more money is the WiFi + cellular version worth the extra expense?

If you have an iPhone already, then you can just tether that to the iPad so no need for the cellular version.

I can't see the point of a cellular version that costs more to buy and has to have a costly extra data plan sim to use. If you have any smartphone and a generous data plan on it, tether the iPad to the phones mobile hotspot feature and you get exactly the same performance.
If you only use the iPad for work, then 32GB will probably be fine as long as you know that the operating system takes about half of it. If you intend storing music, photos, videos and other large files on it, 256GB is what you need. Personally I would never consider an iPad with less than 64GB storage, which will probably be fine for you.

For those that are unaware, the iPad does not have expandable storage, in contrast to almost all Android tablets that are expandable through the use of an optional micro SD card. Therefore it is important to buy an iPad with a generous storage capacity in the first instance.

if you want to use an iPad with gps apps only the Cellular version has built in gps. I got a pro when it first came out, but ended up taking it back after 3weeks and swapped it for an Air as I just didn’t use the pro features at all and didn’t get on with the keyboard so for me the massive price premium was not justifiable.

While I appreciate that you didn't need the Pro features, I'm fairly convinced that they works well enough with maps when tethered to a phone's wireless hotspot. Or at least with an iPhone's. Come to think of it I can't actually recall using it for navigation while on the move. I'm not putting money on it because the more I think about it the more doubt you have made me have.
