Is £100 hour really fair?

Sorry OP It sounds like you are being royally sc***ed over , I hope you havent paid yet , get a full itemised invoice then go over it with a fine toothed comb , ask why it taken so long to do the job and why the labour rate is so high , no need to fall out at this stage .

This is going to sound harsh but you are supposed to be running a business, didn't you tell them to estimate the bill and turn up at the place a few times to monitor things?
After all at 110 hours that is nearly a month of work at 35 hours a week!
You would have been far better having a go yourself.

It did look like this.

Handy workshop, good crane, impact gun and I’ve been down to that situation in a day!! IIRC rear diff on tractors had a roughly around 40hrs guide time to do. I should think that the dealer can knock sonething off for a big job like that?

Lets say a good day to strip down, maybe half a day before diagnosing and pressure testing. Another day to strip box/clutches and clean all parts, faces etc. A day to rebuild and re fit to chassiss, 2 days to close up, re fit cab, tanks, wheels etc and run up to calibrate. That’s around 6 to 7 days max. Therefore around the 70hrs?

Ouch maybe you should have bought a Deere... Though did have the hydraulic pump fail and alternator fail on a machine this year and then it had to go back 2 hours work hours later when the head gasket failed . Though that's about all she has had in 7000 hours

I sold a machine to some boys from Yorkshire the other day, they had a 7930 that cost £42k in repairs in 2000 hours :bag:

Green Oak,

Speak to David Redman at Case and ask him what the job should cost?
In some instances Case will have suffered multiple events similar to yours, and will subsidise repair cost to customer since they know you will not buy their product again otherwise, nor many reading this.

Did the dealer help by supplying a tractor to keep you going at a busy time? Did they discount parts at all?
