Is it to early to sow kale?

Seed Bed is damp now , it will get away, we may be back to dry weather next month and miss the boat

Was involved with growing kale for about 5 years. Was sown from mid April to late June. The best crop was Maris Kestrel sown in early May straight after a silage cut.

problem with sowing it to early it can get away on you and end up a field of big stalky sticks they don’t want to eat

What seed rate for direct drilling into old ley? Thinking of sowing it this week.
Would it need 3kg/acre to allow a bit for loss?

Aye them stalks almost as thick as your forearm aren’t any use at all!! Much rather have half a dozen thinner softer stalks that they graze too the floor!

bit wet and cold for small seeds atm, best leave it for awhile to wait for it to warm up bit .

i dont know but dont do itunless the ground is nicely dry ,no good if its a bit fudgey, no good at all with heavy rain about .

Ours has been in 3 weeks. Be best part of complete ground cover by Friday. Will apply fert when dry enough and graze in hopfully 6 weeks.

My ground couldn't get wet enough. Hoping rain will soften it to let drill penetrate.

If your worried about stem then plant a regrow and graze it a bit earlier
Or sow a Kestral type that has more leaf
