Not content with a mob lambing inside and another lambing outside, we suddenly became an impromptu heliport for the Ambicopter yesterday afternoon.
A couple of circuits round the yard and the lambing park and down he came in the only field he could see with no sheep in....

Assuming he was coming to pick somebody up, I offered to open the gate so an ambulance could get to him.

The paramedics were a bit 'cagey' about what was going on but 3 of them, loaded up with back packs of kit, were whisked off by car to the local town.

Turns out there was a madman running about with a gun:woot: and the paramedics were there in case anybody needed a bit of emergency medical attention.

Anyhow about an hour later they took off again with no extra passengers, so I guess the incident ended well.

Update.
Mrs YB tells me this morning that local news says it was some crack head with a toy gun :banghead:
Pity they didn't shoot the bu66er anyway - his antics will have cost the emergency sevices thousands and meant that somebody who really needed an ambicopter probably didn't get one

A memory just came to me... probably around 2002 / 2003, I was involved in the defence of a GBH case that occurred in lovely Hemel Hempstead. It was a pretty typical case of alcohol and blokes getting first a bit lairy, then abusive and then violent; the fight was fairly unpleasant and a couple of chaps were arrested.

The next day the local plod brought in the police helicopter for some aerial photo's of the scene... entirely unnecessary, no idea what it cost but the judge ordered the Chief Constable to Court - not, officially, to ask about why the chopper was deployed, but in fact to embarrass him by mentioning the overkill in passing.

I can also recall an episode in Kent, Maidstone I think, that, a hundred or so police attended... it was a teenager's birthday barbecue with maybe a dozen guests, all quiet enough. A neighbour had got p!ssed off about the smoke and called 999 giving the impression of a drug-fuelled riot. That isn't the worst of it, after the first area car arrived its driver actually called for backup; the parents of the birthday boy denied any wrong-doing and refused to have their boy's party ruined by the police. The father was arrested and resisted, leading to several of the cops being on top of him and the mother going ape at them. In the end all Criminal charges were dropped and the police paid compensation to the family, quite right too.

Point is, the cops and probably others are quite capable of wasting our money by their own devices... :banghead: :(

A teenage lad staying locally got pee'd, and decided to climb on the house roof to try and get a phone signal. He fell off, so the air ambulance was called. The ambulance came down in my top field but had to take off again sharpish when the Wild Boar ran towards it and started attacking the tyres. I saw what had happened and gave them a lift to the farm when they landed up the road. The lad met them on the lane to the house, singing loudly. He was so drunk, he had bounced.
I think some of the air crew needed oxygen from the Wild Boar attacking!
