Got an old JCB 525 thats started putting diesel into engine oil. Changed heater plug but still doing it oil level up with only around 4hrs of operation. Its running fine so could it get in through lift pump without making it run rough? Obviously its probably injector pump seal but as always try the cheap things first. Is their any things to watch out for when taking off injector pump?

just mark the pump so you don't loose the timing im sure its the same as a 3cx engine from memory it was easy just 2 or 3 bolts hold it on its possible the lift pump could be doing it easy to check remove it with derv pipes still on and pump it

Re check the heater plug!

I replaced a leaking one last year with a genuine perkins one only to find the new one was faulty.

to check remove the plug, reconnect fuel pipe and then pump lift pump by hand. they either leak or they don't.

Would a leaking heater plug! cause oil level in sump to rise ?
My money on lift pump diaphragm or injector pump drive gland seal

Yes! it floods the inlet filling the piston crowns with fuel and it then washes down the bores. if really bad it will hydro lock on first start up in the morning/after its been stood a while.

When engine stopped there is still pressure in the fuel system so fuel keeps running in the intake with it stopped till this pressure is gone. Normally fills the turbo which on start up gets sucked in to the cylinders.

pump will come back from pump shop set at a timing. You will need to turn the engine to match. Ask pump guy what the engine needs be set at and make sure you are on the right rotation ie not 360 degrees out.

Nope he is on a old school perkins, pump is keyed to the gear cant go wrong. its the later ones that you lock on TDC

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
