JCB 530-70 Problems

I am having a nightmare with my jcb 530-70. It will not start on the key but will start straight up if shorted across the starter. Once started it will not move forward or back. When you move the shuttle lever none of the relays click or anything.

My first thought was it must be not powering up the shuttle but there is power going to the lever so I bought a new lever but it is still the same. Won't start or move. Any ideas? Has anyone got a wiring diagram?

Is the neutral safety switch on the lever or is there something buried in the crap on top of the gearbox?

I have spent a day and a half on this already and have got nowhere!

forward reverse lever will power up a safety start relay I expect. might be faulty relay or wiring to/from it.

does it have a transmission ECU under the cab seat? check its got power to it as if not that will cause your exact problem.

No ecu that I can see. Anybody know which relay I need to look at?

is there not a sticker on the back of the fuse panel? or it will be in the manual. cant help any more as I not got jcb manuals and don't work on them that often you know off top my head, just figure it out as I go along:scratchhead:

No sticker or manual and it doesn't click or anything so working blind. Doesn't help that all the wires are yellow with worn off numbers.

It won't start on the key?....have you checked the ignition barrel and its wiring? If the ignition is not on and you've just crossed the starter then I assume it would simulate the fault you have?

What year is it? May help anyone who can offer more precise knowledge?

It's a 2000 and the key barrel is working OK I think. I have checked there is power in each wire leaving the barrel when the key is turned and all appears normal. I have nearly had the whole dash apart and found nothing wrong. Switched around all the relays and still nothing. I am close to having spent two days on this. Starting to go little mad.

Another good thing to check is earthing points, sorry I can't point you directly to them, but there will be several on the loom in various places, and the cab will most likely have an Earth link to the frame, you can't test power supplies all you like, but if it's lost an earth somewhere then your in a muddle!

The ignition will likely have a relay, this could be at fault?

Is it still not starting onthe key? I assume when you cross the starter you have the key turned and full ignition lights illuminated? And then when it's running the lights go out?

Don't know about starting issue but mine did stop going back or forward last yr it was the big plug onto the black box ontop of the transmission I have it blown out and been OK for a few hundred hrs, I now have problem of no 4th gear in forward or reverse when you turn up from 3rd to 4th it just stays in 3rd

Yep everything else works as normal, except just no start and no movement Buzzer/ignition lights on before it runs, everything goes out as normal when I start it manually at the starter. The boom moves, 4 wheel steer works etc.

I have noticed as well that i get no reverse beep when I put the shuttle in reverse.

A couple of the bigger relays click when the ignition is turned on, I have changed these around with some of the others.

There is power at the shuttle lever but only on one terminal, the lever does the shuttle but also has the horn on it and the powershift gear change on it. How likely is it that the lever could have two feeds, so for example the horn works with the ignition off? If that was the case I may have no power getting to the actual shuttle.

I have switched every relay around swapping them from one end to the other to see if this alters anything.

Don't think mine has a black box on the transmission, probably too old. I will go and have another look though!

If it's a 530-70 it will have f/r solenoid on the transmission, sounds like you have a bad earth,I found mine using a length of wire on a crocodile clip, mine was an earth to a relay next to the fuses.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
