JCB 801.4 Minidigger - fuel filling

Hello

Recently got an old JCB 801.4 minidigger, everything that has to work seems to do so. Came to top up fuel and upon removing fuel cap, there seems to be a fitting for a fuel cap inside it too. I can fill into that using the nozle on the jerry can, but is there supposed to be an internal cap too, or some funnel arrangement between the two? My apologies for the daft question but I'm new to machinery.

There should be an extension on a wire beside the tank to extend out the neck to allow you to fill with a can. My dad has an 801.4 also and his has this extension piece. If I'm at his place I will geta pic.
