JCB Loadall 4wd

Recently got an '07 JCB 541-70. Everything is spot on only for only the rear wheels have drive.

Haven't really poked around with it much yet but just wondering if it's a simple issue like a stuck solenoid or something.

There's no 4wd switch on it so wondering what way it works on them? Such as does it engage automatically in lower gears or when 4 wheel steer or crank steer is activated?

There’s a switch in our ‘09, is it an old model with lever?
Ours also engages when braking or handbrake applied.
Photo dash and I’ll see if it’s same as ours?

Default is front wheel drive so if you really do have no drive to front wheels then either the front propshaft is missing, Crown wheel has been removed or the planet gears removed from the front wheel hubs.

Jack it up on the front and start looking to see whats turning with the wheels and whats not.

I was thinking it should be the front wheels that are driven even if 2 wheel drive was selectable as makes sense and also with the front wheels being the braking axle.

The brakes were done on it apparently by JCB not that long ago and hasn't done much since so strange if there was an issue and it wasn't fixed when the brakes were done.

I'll jack the front wheels up and see what happens with opposite wheel or propshaft anyway :)

it will be default front wheel drive all the time, there will be a clutch pack which i think has to be pressured up to make it 4wd or it might be the other way around i cant remember either way you should never loose drive to front wheels as its all mechanical so IF you have lost front drive then something is broken or missing on the prop shaft or the front axle. i dont think its possible to be in the gearbox since the front prop shaft is connected to the main shaft in through the gearbox.

Lifted up the front of it this morning.

Both wheels turning individually with the other left still. Propshaft or opposite driveshaft not turning either so it looks like there's something broken or missing in the diff 🙄

No untoward noises though and all spinning smoothly so either something broken or stripped very cleanly or somebody has done a cheeky fix by removing something!

maybe one of the half shafts snapped off in the diff unit, or crown wheel has been removed.

lift front off the ground again and drive forward, if one wheel turns and the other doesnt then half shaft snapped in diff i would think based on what you have described so far. If niether turn then suspect someone done a dirty trick and removed the crown wheel rather than fix the original problem.

One the jcb forklifts where my brother works did this it sheared a ring of bolts off innthe front diff

Also had the front pinion shaft snap too and again there is a mod to a bigger dia pinion shaft, that was easy spot though as prop fell off still with the diff yoke and bit of broken pinion attached lol
