Jcb531 70 grease nipples are doing my nut in

How the hell are you meant to grease the nipples in the axle ujs?

The one nearest the hub is impossible to get to!
Why fit nipples if they not usable?

Any tips?
I've got a neatly bent solid tube end which I can get to the nipple, but it will not latch on.

Now Then..
JCB supply a special tool for greasing the front axle universal joints. I can't remember the part number..
Even with the too it's a crap job. However, it I recall correctly, it only needs doing every 500 hours, maybe less..

I've got one of the pictured things above and they help but still very very difficult,especially if you by yourself.the nipples closest to hubs are just about impossible to do.I generally Jack my machine up with full lock on and turn wheels by hand.why they can't fit nipples on outside of x bit in middle of joint is beyond me.my spearhead batwing mower has nipples on outside of the x bit and dead easy to grease.they could fit sealed for life joints like lots of diggers have on front axles.

When I asked our JCB man he said “why are you bothering, most people just let them fail then replace them with new ones that don’t require greasing”
I still grease them but it’s not easy!

The rear axle seems better than the front axle strangely.
I've ordered a 90 degree slide on adapter to try.
Probably won't work, but it's worth a go.

Best make sure the plastic cover isn't still on the nipple first then access it through the same gap in the uj as the other nipple making sure its facing towards you. I find using a pair of bent nosed pliers good for bending a normal grease pipe around to push onto the nipple.
