JD 6300 wont start

Hi,

My JD 6300 wont fire up. Was fine other day and now just wont start. Ive replaced the battery, the dash lights up but just wont turn over. Im wondering if its starter motor but before i get a mechanic to come look is there anything i can check?

When i do try to turn it to start i hear the relays clicking but that's it - Are there any fuses i need to check?

Thanks in advance.

There's an extra solenoid on the front of the starter, remove the plastic cover, I have in the photo, turn on the ing switch, make sure the transmission is in park and neutral, then put a screwdriver/spanner across the two main terminals on that solenoid, and report back. My bet would be on that solenoid being the problem.

Which one is the solenoid?

ok, cheers...im not very mechanically minded, sorry lol!! Is there a specific way to remove the plastic cover without interferring with the wires?
So you don't know how to "Hotwire" a starter to bypass all the electrics? I was nearly banned from school for telling some lads how to start a tractor with coin!

My advice is get someone with some basic DIY ability in fixing cars , engines etc.. to have a look, but point them in the direction of that secondary solenoid as probably being the main culprit.

Ok many thanks. will the JD 6400 starter solenoid be ok for my JD 6300?

If it is the solenoid thats the problem, what is it that is making it so it cant fire up?...mine seems to be all covered in crap/oil

Some basic testing needs to be done before buying that solenoid. First is as @Blue. Says, shorting the starter. If that works, then making sure there is a 12 v supply to the extra solenoid when the key is engaged.. also be aware that the earth wires for the secondary solenoid attach to the battery terminal on the front .I've seen them come loose and not starting.. there's even a safety switch somewhere to stop it being started in gear... So quite a bit to diagnose properly.. show this info to anyone with basic knowledge.. and it should be easy to sort out. Should have added, even the key switch in the cab eventually fail .

My mates just come up and got it started by putting a touching 2 metal pins together - one touching one part of starter motor and the other touching an other part. So am guessing it’s the extra solenoid thingy!
He ask why there was this extra starter solenoid - I have no idea - do you know?

guess I need to get it replaced now?

Well done,so the starter motor is all good. As for that extra solenoid? My theory would be.. the main starter solenoid probably needs quite a few amps to engage it.. and in order to reduce the size of the wires from the cab and lengthen the life of the starter switch they fitted that secondary solenoid to feed the main .
