Anyway, as I understand it, the problem is folks not sticking to the ROW's and trampling crops ? Different thing to maintaining existing ROW's ? Unless he wants them all fenced with security fencing ?

Right to roam would be fine if it was applied in the correct way.

If private land is included, that should include everyone's gardens.

If it's applied to land used for "business purposes" such as farmland, it should include all car parks and commercial premises. Fancy a stroll around Buck House gardens anyone?

This really winds me up, when the UK has 160,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways (not including green lanes).

I'm sure no other country has this much public access to cultivated land.

George Monbiot wound me up ( again ) so sent a text in saying that increasing public access resulted not only in damaging livelihoods but also the environment. Last time I looked on the title deeds the land here all belonged to me. I do not want any Tom, Dick, Harry or Fanny walking around it at their pleasure. Why should I give free access to my property?

My old grandad use to say that before a farmer married a horse girl, he should go round and see her spread. I think it is a very wise course to follow even today.
