Jf 1350 drum upgrade.

Don’t do it, we ran a 1060 and the new drum is a horrible power hungry thing. The biggest problem is it has lugs that end up only 5mm away from the knife edge so the grass they hit has nowhere to go- it sucks an incredible amount of power and I can’t believe it ever made it past the CAD stage.

It will give a little more blow but a well set up older drum is fine. I always fancied speeding the whole thing up with some different gearing- if everything was sped up 10- 15%, feed rolls included, presumably potential output would rise by the same amount?

Besides from all that I think you’d be surprised at the cost of a new cylinder- almost certainly more than your 1350 is worth.

This is all very valuable information thanks. I'm trying to do a bit of research, thinking about moving from mengele to jf. Was concerned over lack of blow and with thinking of picking up a reason 1350 with the intention of getting a 1360 drum to increase blow.

What are you planning to drive it with? If I was in the market for a trailed I’d be snapping up one of the last Lely Storm 300’s that are still available- they seem good value

Jd 7810 220hp 2000nm. You may be right. Good to look into the competition when thinking of a change, weight up all the options and all that[emoji106]

Well, I’m not connected to this product these days so I’ll be polite and say “no comment”. It would be wrong of me to make comment about such an investment when Kongskilde/New Holland are now responsible so up to them to comment and or help.
U could always giv ur opinion to help advise ever if it is up to kongskilde

I'm not sure if changing the drum in a 1350 will make much difference to the way it blows. The chute on all of those JFs is the wrong shape, it levels out too much at the top and the grass wants to fall out of the chute.

Sorry for a late reply had a few break downs yesterday... It seems jf confidence is not as strong as I'd hoped.
On the Lely storm topic I wouldn't have confidence in the long term supply of parts if they are considering dropping the trailed harvesters. The parts are becoming already hard to find.

I used to buck rake for a contractor with a 1355. He took half the blades out when it was new because he thought it would be easier to drive. I’m not sure if it worked and it was really poor to blow because of it. The grass was pretty long chop too & a nightmare to buck rake especially in dry mature grass. I christened it ‘the hay blower’
