Ah no how dreadful. That is really sad. Condolences to the family. What a shame.

I can only say it was a life well lived and he certainly influenced others and I'm grateful for that.

Well said Will.

I am definitely one of the many he helped and influenced and I will always be grateful to him for that. It was always real a pleasure to chat with Jim at a show or meeting, such enthusiasm and always with a smile.

RIP Jim.

Crumbs, that’s sad news.

I never met him but he messaged me on here a time or two and was always very supportive of what I was doing. Spoke to him once and he immediately came across as one of those people I should listen to and take heed. Very knowledgeable.

He encouraged me to attend the soil health demo/seminar/knowledge event (name escapes me now). I couldn’t go but wish I had.

If his family look in on here I hope they know he was very well respected.

Remember him for a moment next time your out moving some soil around!

Very sad news, never had the pleasure of meeting him but had conversed with him on here, he always seemed so quick to offer help and advice to anyone that asked and had such enthusiasm for what he was doing on his farm.
RIP Jim and deep condolences to all family and friends :(

Just stumbled across this tragic news. I enjoyed his take on all things min/no till. I don’t sell arable bear these days, but was introduced to direct drilling when I worked for Velcourt in the late 70’s and all the Gramoxone and 3 D drills so follow the informative and best threads on TFF. As others have said a very sad loss indeed. Condolences to family and close friends of Jim’s

Bugger, what terrible news. I know Jim had been battling cancer for some years, but he was always upbeat and positive, and looking forward to getting over it and moving on.

I have always been honoured to call Jim good friend, I called in to see him a couple of years ago, when I was in his area. Of course his lovely wife gave us lunch, while we chatted about all manner of things, not necessarily farming related, and then we were off round the farm in his landrover. Jim showed me all his successes and wasn't too proud to show a few problems as well. He and his brother, Nigel also had a whole field dedicated to trials, with strips of covers, and various crops which they did every year to help decision making on their own farm. I think it was getting dark by the time I left, and it is a day I will never forget.

You could say that Jim was a true English Country Gentleman, and yet he was very progressive in his farming and actually ahead of his time in many ways. He will leave a huge hole in our lives and in the Conservation Ag movement (or what ever you want to call it) in this country, because he was there right at the beginning, and kept on promoting our ideas to the end.

God bless you Jim.

We were very honoured to have Jim on our farm for one of Will Scales No Till Alliance meetings. It was a surprise to see him & Nigel travel down such a way to attend the farm walk, as well as others from this forum. His encouragement on that day and since then with all things direct drilling was massively appreciated. Condolences to his family.

So very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Met and chatted to him several times about 16 or 17 years ago at Edward Weavings when my son was working there.
Sincere condolences to his brother Nigel and all the family.
Rest in Peace Jim.

Received a message from Nigel today that he asked I post on TFF

To say I have been reading the many fantastic tributes to my brother Jim on the Farming Forum and I was wondering if it would be possible for you to post notification of his memorial service which is on Friday 2nd of February at 2.30pm in the Malvern College chapel, his old school, with refreshments afterwards and all welcome to attend. Just thought more local people may wish to attend.

Many thanks
