So I know these weren’t a good combine to begin with but are all the issues now know and sorted or are they still best avoided? There is one for sale locally at an attractive price but it is there previous reputation that has the cheap or are they still extremely unreliable?

I ran a 1450cws for around 8 years, I bought it used (about 5 years old) and put a new concave and bars in. After that the only things it had was a new belt and a bearing on the fan speed variator pulley, new grain and returns elivator chain and flights (where very reasonably priced if I recall) and a sieve extension. Other than that it only had oil and filters. It never once broke down in the season.
The only issue that use to annoy me is the walkers can build up with whiskers when cutting barley, it’s a daily job to get in the back clean them out.
It’s not a high capacity machine either, probably around 3 acres an hour in a good 4ton wheat crop, 2.5 in barley depending on what loses your happy with.

We ran a 1450 wts then a 1470 wts both were very reliable simple combines ours had 18ft fronts which made it work hard, 30ac a day in heavy crops, make an excellent sample! I would say they are better combines output wise than the w540 that followed them.

I have a 1550cws the slightly bigger one
Good basic combine
Been here 10 years now
Had its share of breakdowns, including axle snapping last year ( poor Weld from factory )
Electrical problems are a pain
But its probably cost us a lot less than the Claas Dom 88 it replaced
JD combine parts are no where near as dear as claas, and you can go online and find the price on their parts portal 1st
