John Deere 5r

Just after owners opinions on these tractors ? Looking for something to replace a mccormick cx105 as a loader tractor and this one seems to fit the bill . However after trying one today just in the dealers yard while being exceedingly impressed with the visibility and turning circle I was very unimpressed with the smoothness of the shuttle /clutch . Would this just be because the oil was cold or do they get better ? Ideally I would like to find a low hours 4cyl autopower 30 series and put a loader on it but been looking for ages and can't find one , did look at the new snoopy nose 6m but they are just too tall now wether you have cab suspension or not so 5r is the only model low enough .

Looking at a 5r to replace jd5820. Some improvements but some steps backwards too. Don't like them no longer having full frame chassis the loader pipework is left very untidy and they have no side panneling to hide all the filters and engine pipework which will gather all the muck of the day. Cab suspension leaves them higher and the front axle suspension has a lot of grease nipples and moving parts.
Thinking maybe towards case luxxum instead.

Uncle has a 5125r loader with powershift kinda tranny. Big thumbs down from me. Dont like the tranny compared to powerquad and its no where near as comfortable with front and cab suspension compared to his 6125m with just front suspension. The 5125 replaced a case farmall pro 115 which is predecessor of the luxxum and id giv it a big thumbs up for power, fuel economy and build quality and had large hydralic flow for loader work. Was excellent wee tractor and very agile

I tried one end of last year and had the same problem regarding the shuttle, I was assured that it would be put right before it was on farm but wasn't impressed and walked away. Ended up with a New Holland T5 electro command which is decent enough but was shockingly put together, dealer was spot on and worked to put it right.

Not knockin your nh but the luxxum would be betr again with the zf backend/tranny. Prob be as good tractor of that size available if your not goin for vario. If vario a fendt 312 would be the dogs do dahs

Don't disagree with any of that but it was the tractor that could do all that we needed at a price that was right.

Considered 2nd fendt 312 but cab is very high just like on the new JD m series .
Class 430 would be another with low cab but very long wheelbase .
30 series autopower would fit the bill on all fronts but don't just seem to exist in the UK !

30 series's auto power , 4cyl with loader be a nice set up, where on the hunt aswell (y)
Autopower was fairly rare in the 30 series as it was! In 4 cyl are going to next to impossible to find I would imagine.
Phased out must be over 8 years ago low houred one would make it harder still!!

I wouldn't think the new 6M cab would be too high without cab suspension and on 34s at the back.Neighbour has a new 6110M on order with a 602 loader, this is to replace a 2 year old 5100R with the fancy gearbox that he hates.Thinks hes had a special deal but its still costing £70k in total. The 3 5000series Deeres hes had have been awful,5720 totally gutless.5080R would have been fine but it had a chip on from new to make it 110hp,resulting in major problems including a new engine eventually.I think the new 5R range would have been good if it had a Powerquad gearbox, cant understand why it hasn't.

That's the problem , for the last few years they have stopped making the cabs lower if you don't spec cab suspension , all full height now , new 6m on 34s is higher than 30 series on 38s

Is autopower good for loader work then? Only done a few bits with autopower but can’t imagine it on a loader somehow.
I've got a 6125r autopower as well with loader brackets , but it's too big and on other duties hence I'd like a 30 series autopower , IMHO is there is no better gearbox for loader work than an IVT

The dealer sold a brand new tractor with a chip on it?
How did they hide that from Deere? I have heard of it before mind, perhaps its one of the reasons they're thinning out the dealers?

Yes seen that one , but with 50k and high hours I would just be a bit nervous .50k murders brakes and could of had debris in the oil at some point . AP is reportedly more reliable now than PQ but you can repair PQ

11 years of auto powers here and not touched one,had a 6610 power quad smash the gearbox up on a square baler once and tractor took off down a field!! Could of been nasty if it wasn’t for a big ditch and hedge at the bottom, turned out to be a manufacturing fault
