The engines are virtually identical now, including the turbo.

Granted, the worklights idea on the R is bloody ridiculous.
What's the problem withworklights? Demo I had you turned knob on steering column once for sidelights, one more for headlights and next was headlights and worklights. Same as 6310 we had years ago.

Led light option was awesome! Like daylight.

Worklights are a nightmare on an R you set up what lights you want for dip and main beam headlights so that's 2 ways then that's doubled up by having the choice of number 1 set or number 2 set (which first came out on the 30's and works well) so that's 4 ways then you can choose if you want the lights to come on in pairs or separate so you can have a whole heap of options when all you want to do is as you say turn the switch on the dash and get the bloody lights on or off!!
And after you think you've got it set how you want it sometimes just does what it wants anyway for fun.

Mine has mostly LED with a scattering of standard and the standard are like candles the LED are really bright but it's a funny light to work in a lot I prefer the 30 series lights but would like xenons if I had the choice our latest second hand addition has them and they're really good.

The 6155m will be a decent machine but will need another 50hp if it's anything like the R it'll be a better cab it's just a shame they're using the same engine/turbo as the R these days They're decent spec just can't quite get to the same gearbox options as the R but will be more than capable as we all used to do the jobs with a tractor like that

I dont understand why most manufacturers dont have a platform model that can be specked up to what u actually need. standard engine . lift capacity cab and upgrade as required from that. valtra do something like it

Most makes offer a very basic model but no one (in the UK) seems to want them.

It depends whether you really need 50k or not! Its a pity they don't offer the M's with a 50k box but the John Deere rep told me himself the only reason they don't is because no one would buy an R! We recently replaced a premium 20 series with a standard bigger 30 that was specced up a bit and tbh the only thing I miss is the separate PUH controls but it's not enough to not buy it!

If 50k was an option I would spec it, but to be honest don't really need it. The vast majority of our work is within 4/5 miles of base. For going further than that occasionally we have the R series anyway.

I know what you mean with the separate PUH controls. On the M I have specced an extra spool, the control for which is tucked back almost behind the seat, I'll just leave the hitch plugged in there.

The dealer brought us a 6130m this autumn, loved it, was just as good as our 30 series premium if not better.
I personally would feel sick paying an extra 12 grand for an r. This demo had front suspension, cab suspension transmission that was better than power quad, but can’t remember what they called it.

What are people's experience of the 6M series, and specifically the 6155M?

We have had one on demo and was quite impressed. It's not quite as refined as our 6155R but when specced the as closely as possible to an R there's a £12k difference in price.

There are differences of course, the cab is smaller, mechanical cab suspension not hydraulic, no power boost, 2x450 series/ 2x 200 series spools instead of 4x 450 series on the R, and as I mentioned it's that bit less refined. Having never driven a Powerquad tractor before I found the range changes a bit jerky/ tricky. Especially from D down to C. Does this get better with time? Are the R series the same or is it a trait of the M's?

But £12k is £12k, it takes a lot of earning, and to be fair the M will do everything we ask of it.

What will the £12k price difference look like in 4 years time with 6000 hours on the clock?

Has anyone had an M and wished they had stepped up to an R?
Is there any examples of a used M being worth more than an equivalent used R?
A JD expert told me that there is.

I can't find any. The 155's aren't that old yet so it's tricky, but comparing 1 year old 500 hour ex hire machines, M's can be had for £59,500, R's start at £75k for a fairly basic spec, up to £95k for a fully loaded one.

Maybe when they get older the M might be more valuable for people that want a simpler machine.
A year old 500hr example is too fresh.

The R ones are just stupid, everytime you want to turn a work light on or off you have to go into the computer, why not just stick to switches or push pads for each one like everyone else, then when you want it or don't want it you can just press it, it's just a completely unnecessary backwards step
