Joint ill

So one of my heifer calves came down with this. My vet has given her a course of antibiotics and metacam. It's having some improvement, but I was wondering how long will it take before said joint is back to normal and she can walk on it again? Also, will there be any longterm lameness or scarring?

Sorry to say we would get one a yr and as a rule they don’t recover. Sorry

They recover if caught quickly about 50 50 fully recover, most will be left with a limp. At least 3 weeks of combo clave or it will come back

I would agree with the 50:50 prognosis.

Agree with the above. Which antibiotic? I would go straight to something like noroclav, we had a couple last year and pen strep etc wouldn't touch it.

Yeah, we were given Noroclav by the vet to treat her. I'm just concerned if, once better, she will have long term effects from it?

depends how quickly it's caught and cured. It destroys the joint so as they get heavier it affects them more.

I noticed it about half a week ago, I assumed she had twisted her leg, so gave her metacam. Didn't improve so called out the vet and he diagnosed her with that. She is about 3 weeks old, so not a bad size. He said we had caught it just in time, but I am just really concerned as I have never had this before and she's out of one of my best cows, so just very worried really

If you have it in time should be fine if not you will know within a month or so best to cull

If caught early enough I think you have a good chance of curing it. Currently I have a 2 Yr old heifer in the herd that had joint ill in 2 legs as a calf. Absolutely no long term effects. Just be sure and finish the course of antibiotics even if she's looking better in a couple of days.
