Anyone got any advice on a small air rifle for target shooting for a boy (10). He’s really taken to plinking away at targets in the garden, but my air rifle is a bit big for him so was looking for advice about types and also of anyone knows any stockists around Peak District area. There on hols next week which is his birthday.

thanks.

I love my little CO2 air rifle, weighs nothing and accuracy is great to 20m for rattus control. BUT cost more in gas.... Pump or springer I would suggest.

Had it from this company. Great selection in store too..

That place looks just the ticket. Got an Airbnb at Leek so not too far away either. Thanks.

I have my Great Grandfathers BSA similar to this. Made in 1913 and still deadly!
Here’s a .22 for not-a-lot and will go on and on and still be a talking piece no matter what.

Not sure, I’d rather pay a bit more and have something decent than cheapy cheerful.

Think spring or pump is most appropriate and not too heavy.

Been 15yr since bought my last one, a bit out of the loop
There’s a crossman cp2 but it relies on little gas canisters can be had for around £180. Lots of fun as multi shot and very capable. Or plenty of junior springer options on Pell pax for under £100 they even deliver. I’ve got a BSA ultra xl and it’s brilliant. But expect to pay around £650? For one and a dive bottle to refill

I got this spring action .22 Remington about 18 months ago, £150 including the scopes. Found it very accurate for vermin control, rats, pigeons, squirrels etc seems to have plenty of power. Plus the plastic stock makes it a bit lighter and more robust.

What sort of pressure do the canisters run at? Take it it’s beyond recharging with workshop air compressor?

I think simplicity is key for him so under lever or break barrel be best.

You can’t recharge as they are C02 and it would cause a world of issues, take a look at Pell pax junior rifles mate, a very capable rifle can be had for under £100 the junior bit means they are smaller in stock so easier to shoulder and run at around 7ftlb meaning less spring resistance to cock. I’d recommend 177 as it will be a plinker, far cheaper pellets and more accurate

I don’t wish to bang on, but for plinking, fast loading, open sights, light & easy to use are all in this little rifle.

It’s a lovely looking rifle, but for a 10yr old boy who may or may not be going through a phase, I’d be more comfortable with something that doesn’t have a history. Nothing sadder than seeing a
