Keep Farm Subsidies....REMOVE MINETTE BATTERS

Minette Batters, "DEPUTY PRESIDENT" of the NFU has called for the removal of farming subsidies as they are a waste of public money, she has literally thrown UK farming businesses under the bus and started negotiations with the UK government from a defeatist position accepted that "these payments would all but disappear once Britain left the EU"

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE from one of our farming leaders she should be backing us from the outset in these negotiations and driving a good deal for farmers so ensure their survival in the difficult years ahead,

I have already phoned the NFU to issue a complaint and ask for her removal, I STRONGLY urge fellow farmers on this forum to join me in this and pickup the phone to make a formal complaint about "Minette Batters" or by email, WE MUST NOT LET THIS GO UNCHECKED!!!!!!!

All farmers please do this we need to stick together and not let our leaders forget about us!!!

I saw the title of the thread and the poster and thought oh no, the bosses 50th thread on his need for subsidies.

However for once it is constructive. He has done something and is encouraging others to do the same.

I am not convinced that subsidies are the way ahead. But it is surely wrong to throw in the towel before you start negotiations and to give away your stance before a meeting is a sign and position of weakness.

Is this the way the NFU should have started negotiations with the government?

Oh give up Bossfarmer. You do write such a load of nonsense. If you are going to rant, at least do it eloquently and without recourse to such stupid hyperbole. She hasn't 'literally' thrown any farming business under a bus. That would be physically impossible.

And stop using all those capitals - it's the written equivalent of shouting and just makes you look stupid and infantile.

I'm sure you have some interesting things to say and write, but it's all lost in your over the top exaggeration. Stick to mature debate and someone might actually engage you in an adult conversation.

At least he don't use his subsidy money to buy a computer to wright anti subsidy posts on a farming forum, so he is not that bigger hypocrite

and maybe @Bossfarmer has a point as well

maybe he does but I don't find myself agreeing with it

Farming is not subsidised, land ownership is and as farmers that does us no favours

There is no way that the public are going to vote to put money in a landowners pocket over the NHS or their pension etc so its time to get real I think for many

why on earth should we be subsidised to produce food anyway ? I agree with being paid to protect and improve the environment by the way as its not going to get done for free is it ! but distorting the value of food through subsidy i really cant see being in the best interest of farmers really

Not enough to bother me if I get it or not. One elderly, miserly landlord has already been in asking when he'll get his cut....
I'll keep less than .5% of my turnover in subs this year.
turnover is vanity
what about % of profit
I don't expect you to say though (y)

'Boss', when subs go, think of all the cheap farms you'll be able able to buy and asset strip (ripping the arse out of the family farming community for posterity), just like you've boasted about elsewhere.

And come to think of it, why do you think any of our southern cousins should give a toss what you think. Minette Batters represents the ENGLISH NFU membership, i.e. not you.
If you've got a beef with her, take it up with Alan Bowie and NFU Scotland.

Can't agree. huge amount of waste in the whole system. Sooner gone the better. Get good. Get on or get out.

Minette Batters has FAR over stepped the line this time with this interview.

A lot of senior NFU people have a lot of faith in her but I have no idea why as she spends most of her time working against NFU members intrests and this article in the Times clearly backs that up!

Make no bones about it she is only intrested in raising her own profile and not fighting for her members!

Ref @happycows, I believe you sell calves to beef farmers, well I can tell you that if subs go then the value of calves/ store cattle etc will drop by at least 30% on current levels so you are gaining a lot more from subs than you realize even thou some of it is in directly from the market place.

I can understand why very large farmers like Clive want the subs to go as they are hoping that a lot of farmers will then quit and they will be able to sweep the land up rent fee or even charge a fee to the owner to farm it.

Regardless of if you think MB is right or wrong she should NOT have undermined future talks on AG support like she has done for several reasons, one being that what she has said will be used by the likes of the RSPB/National Trust etc to further their arguments in the months ahead!

Should the NFU not be tenaciously backing farmers at this point in time?????????
