Kubota tractors.

I'm afraid you are a dinosaur like me.
With modern computer controlled fuel injection a four cylinder engine can be set to mimic a six. We have a four cylinder Valtra and it pulls every bit as well as the six cylinder NH it replaced.
The Kubota engine is over 6 litres which is a hell of a lump for 4 cylinders, personally I think that it will pull like a train, but will let you know as we are having a demo in a fortnight.
I know a Gardner engine would be wonderful in a tractor but time moves on and it ain't going to happen any more.
Which one are you getting on demo?

Just reading the writeup in the FG for the new M7171 Premium KVT, 170 hp vario.

With a 5-year, 5000 hour warranty, the retail price stands at £113,000, so that probably translates an on-farm price of about £80,000. They're definitely not aiming for the bargain end of the market!!

As the new kid on the block, can it really justify that premium price tag though?
at that money they are way to expensive , jd and Massey are quite a bit cheaper with quite a few bells and whistles too

As for selling price a fully loaded M7171 KVT, it would cost significantly less than £80,000 on farm. Don't forget it's Tier 4 final (not all competition are using T4f engines yet) and a comprehensive manufacturer warranty vs some the competition. Dare I say it they might have to look buy deals to get established?

Jim - what's the going discount on a *big* Kubota? I just straight lined it at 30% off - not that they'd give you that much off on the utility models.

Most of the mainstream makes are somewhere between 30 and 40% off retail.

Edit: as a rough rule of thumb (y) (or was a couple of years ago). "Special"deals and f**k off pricing excluded. No idea how much their slashing off in this horrific market now.

Who are the dealers for these tractors, the Kubota website shows ours as being TNS at Littleport, but as they are Fendt/MF dealers I can't see them selling a Kubota in competition with a Fendt 516 and an MF 6616?

Every TNS depot in East Anglia comes up! Thought they would've narrowed it to one or two depots to stop any "franchise fights", maybe TNS told them both to put a sock in it...

Who's going to be demoing them I wonder? Can't be the grounds care guys surely?

Yeah but does TNS come up as they sell the utility/groundcare stuff? I can't find anything on the TNS website that says they will sell the full size tractors?

It would be interesting to see what the fuel consumption of the Kubota engine is like, but that's very difficult to determine on a short term demo and in comparison with a similar power rival. It has traditionally been the Kubota weak point and was again highlighted on a smaller model in the latest Profi. However, we can't judge these big models on results for their utility range of tractors. I hope it will perform very well indeed in every way so that every rival is encouraged to become ever better.

I went in via: http://www.kubota-eu.com

Then chose "Agriculture" and selected UK. All TNS depots come up under that heading. Selecting "Construction Equipment" for example takes me to Hosplant in Colchester (nice guys they are too, and a Valtra dealer). So at least in the eyes of Kubota every TNS depot can sell a big Kubota...alongside their 5-star AGCO range. Hmmmm

Edit: if you choose "Groundcare" then TNS don't even get a mention it's George Browns in Great Dunmow. Weird!

Edit: They might be subtly punting them...

Though I did notice they've now got an agency for Trimble. Probably got something or other to do with their new arrangement to supply with Fendt with OEM receivers in lieu of Topcon.

Thats the way I went in as well. Hosplant look after our 8 tonner, not been there but they send the parts out in the post. Maybe they'll do the tractors but Colchester would be too far away for a tractor dealer for us.

Nice guys. I went down there when I was looking for an 8-tonner (small world). We got on to the subject of how they came to take on the Kubota construction franchise, and they were brutally frank about their somewhat spectacular bust up with Takeuchi.

They have handled Trimble for a few years now, they are a subbie for A S Communications.
They sell a lot of Trimble kit, fit most of the autoguide ready stuff themselves.

Never noticed the Trimble logo there before and Jamie never mentioned it when we spoke (but I guess he had no reason to really). I guess they'll be fitting even more now that Fender have moved that way, an important franchise for them.

Yes indeedy, the new receiver isn't just for Fendt, it's Agco wide (despite what some may be saying).

Not sure but a rep said to me some brands will use the current Topcon stuff for some time to come and they will also look to add additional receiver support to the new system over time

They really need to do something better with VarioDoc. That whole things a flipping anachronism.

I was hoping this new marriage with Trimble would see better back end integration with Connected Farm and Farm Works.

Nothing yet though....
