Hi everyone.
Our 303ygl is struggling to cut short grass and leave it in a swath. It will cut it clean but it is just pushing it out the 1st disc all the time and leaving an untidy job. We mow a customers ground and he bales out the mower swath so doesn’t want it raking and it is making a mess of the field. Any one know what the problem is. Thanks

We had one of these for 15 years- best mower we ever had.
Your problem will almost 100% be worn conditioner tines. They will look fine to look at but as soon as the edge is rounded they will struggle in those conditions.

that’s the only thing that could improve them- a steel conditioner.

Conditioner tines if they are plastic fit some new ones and it will make a big difference.

A good 1/2 inch impact gun makes the job much more bearable to do. Also DO NOT cut the tape off the new ones until after they’re fitted. Apprentice made that mistake once and had to retape them all to get them on

As said above it will be your conditioner flails that are worn
We turned ours when we started getting this problem on a Kuhn 313
Does anyone know if you get non genuine ones as ours will soon want a new set

I’ve just had a look and a few on the edges are rounded but only the corner edge. There is still half the time on the edge which is flat. It’s not like a knife edge curved to a point. There is the odd one missing half a tine on either end so I’ll get a few new ones to put on it for the edge: it’s the first time we have mowed light crops with it so it’s all new to us as it’s always mowed fine before. The grass isn’t thick and is only about a foot tall.

They only need to be rounded for them to be ineffective

We tried going like hell and it does make it better but in these fields of 4/5 acre by time you got the speed up you need to slow down again so need to sort something. It’s new to us this mower as the McHales we have also did this and they brought us a Modified disc for the Drive disc.

Do Kuhn sell throwing wings to bolt onto the discs? They were an option on Taarups to stop short grass stalling on the discs. More revs and more speed also solved the problem but it wasn't always possible.
