Kuhn Plough

I have a kuhn multi masters 112 4 furrow plough. Had it set at 14 inch, have just got a bigger tractor to pull it I am thinking of increasing furrow setting to 18 inch, but was worried it might not do as good a job.
Has anybody else done this and how did you find it?

It probably depends on the mouldboards fitted. The wider the furrow, the deeper the plough needs to be to turn tidily. If you don't mind ploughing at least 8" deep then it should be fine.

I don't have your plough, don't know what mouldboards or land type you have, and am not experienced enough with Kuhn ploughs to give a definitive answer.

What type of ground and what type of stubble?

I have a 121 multimaster with h4 bodies. On grassland it'll do a nice job at 16" as shallow as 6", provided you set the skimmers correctly.

I wouldn't try it on 18" here though, even with a good 150hp up front. If it's straw stubble on sandy ground then it would be fine.

Ideally you'll need to change the shares to whatever width it's set to.

Now then we have a 152 generally plough at 16 inch in heavier land but sometimes throw 18s I find the wider the furrow the better it breaks the furrow up been pulling 18s and 20s last week going very well very impressed with the Kuhn tillage gear!

We've a 122 varimaster h4 boards on mainly heavy clay and some silt ground. We generally find it's fine at 18" but when in the really heavy stuff we narrow back to 14-16" for a tidier job. Funnily enough 12" starts to get untidy again. Can't believe how easy it pulls after a DP8 Dowdeswell on UCNs.

we have the same plough, it really depends on the conditions, i wouldn't fancy going to 20 inches on heavy land thered be some hellish big lumps to break downi would have thought. we usually just leave it at 14-16. ive ploughed 20 inches on the couple of lighter fields we have and it does a decent job still. i haven't actually done that much with it int he 3 years we've had it im only the assistant ploughman.

I've got one and tried 16 inch work and it just wouldn't work well and the job looked awful.tried 16 inch shares and it was still no better.ive stuck at 14 ever since

We have a Kuhn MM113, 4 furrow with slatted boards. Usually set at 18inches in stubble but reduce it to 14 for ploughing grass out. All heavy clay. Does a lovely job.
