Kuhn straw blower gearbox

Hello all, the gear box on my neighbours kuhn 3570 has stripped a tooth on 2 gears in high box. Its still running, smooth enough I might add. Can individual gears be got for these gearboxes as kuhn don't supply them and only want to sow a new gearbox in you at £1700. Anyone had the experience of removing said gearbox and care to share their experience/tips. Maybe He would be better fish the teeth out and stay going and replace if it becomes catastropic as there is only a tipping sound at moment. Help/ advice greatly appreciated. TIA F1

Had the same last year on my reco. Foreign object, insurance job. Couldn't get replacement gears so had a new gearbox. Worse bit was getting the fan off the gearbox shaft

Whats best way to get fan off gearbox shaft, did you use any particular method? Does the new gearbox come with a new shaft or have you to mind old one taking it out?

My parts man briefly tried to get some comer parts for one I had a few years ago. Didn’t get very far

I wonder would comer sell a gearbox direct through kramp or sparex or would it be labelled differently and you'd never be sure until it arrived in yard?

had to fit a new gear box to our kuhn a couple of years ago. Broke a tooth off, couldn't get bits so had to get a new one. Wasn't too big a job. There are 4 bolts that hold the gearbox on that are behind the flywheel, these need taking off first (there are 2 holes in the flywheel to get at them through). The flywheel is on a tapered shaft so bit of heat and a tap and it 'should' pop off.

Just before cattle came in this winter our worker was moving the bedder and some how managed to get the pto shaft (disconnected) caught on the tractor drawbar and snapped the pto stub shaft off the gear box. We still had the old original gearbox in the workshop so stripped both gearboxes down and made one good one out of two. Pretty simple gearbox to work on so if you have the time and can find an old secondhand gearbox, thats probably the best/cheapest option. Just need to get new seals, which any generic bearing supplier will be able to get a lot cheaper than kuhn dealer.

Also IIRC comer have a deal with the manufacturers, that they wont supply that gearbox direct. At least thats what our kuhn dealer said at the time when we broke the first gearbox.

Thanks for reply. Did you have to remove feed rotor first to access fly wheel or was it possible to do it leaving rotor in?

Can do it with the rotor in. Bit fiddly but doable. Helps if you have long arms for when you drop the socket down the bottom!

Hi all,
I am currently removing the same gearbox from our Kuhn chopper due to the same pro input shaft being sheared off
To remove the flywheel is it best to strip the wheel of blowers and take the out wheel apart to reduce weight ? Also what it the best way to support the wheel one it is off and to along for reinstallation.
Thanks.

We didnt strip the paddles off and just put some bits of wood underneath for the flywheel to drop onto. So it just droped an inch or so. Could then lever it back up when re assembling.
