Lambing 2017

Going by everyone's thoughts on it, looks like me and the uncle might need to give this one to dad who is adamant it would of been ok to use!

Our thought process of disposing of it was we didn't know for sure if it would still be 100% effective and as it's pretty cheap for a 400ml bottle then it wasn't costing much to use a new bottle for the ewes!

I'd have used it too - I'm expecting the wrath of our local, friendly neighbourhood forum vet to descend upon us all any time now :eek: :LOL:

I'm glad I didn't mention the unopened box of a dozen bottles of Mag Sulphate I found in the attic at home, all of which had an expiry date 20 years previous. Oops, too late.

It worked (we were in a jam at the time), but I wouldn't choose to use it if there was an option.

Hopefully a successful wet adoption. Mums taken lamb. Lamb not 100% yet. Should be fine.

Noticed the plastic jacket as well!!

How do you find this helps in the adoption process????

Thought it would hinder the connection between the lamb and ewe!

Yes. I put on macks as i lamb outside. That lamb is one of a trip born yesterday. Been outside since born.

Have a few pens ready for issues or adoptions.

Find the macks help with wet adoptions. Smother/wet the mack, head and tail and ewes normally don't bat an eyelid.

Maybe the Mack helps mask the smell of the adoptee?

How do you peoples numbering system work? I can't work out the best way, I now mark the lambs on there back, it's easier to see
Singles get done in Letter from A to Z!
All twins just get done in numbers from 1- 100 on the left hand side, same as the ewe!

Triplets that run together get "T1" down the middle of there back and next set are obv T2!!!
Down the back helps to identify them when got alot of lambs around

Always on the lambs back. Ewes on the side. Always start afresh for each field so one to fifty say, then for the next field start at one again. Doubles and singles marked in different colours ie red for singles blue for doubles. Neighbouring field then gets green and orange so if a lamb gets out you know which field it's from, rather than just being a number 43 or whatever. If a third field is adjoining, they start at high numbers so 101 up to 150 so even if it's the same colour, you know which field it's from if it gets out. Oh and there's never been a lamb or ewe on this farm numbered with 13, they die easy enough without tempting fate!

Everything been jogging along nicely until three of the last five to lamb have decided to be @rseholes:mad:.

All three are second croppers (all had lambs last year as shearlings) all have had twins, all have been born unassisted, all have lambed at different times (so I'm positive there's no mix up of lambs) and all have decided they only want to let one of their lambs suck.

Fudging sheep.:banghead:. They say "Things always come in threes" Corrective procedures are now in place.

All three are duly noted and are in line for a 'sideways' career move after weaning.................
