Land for Gundog Training Club - North Yorkshire

I help run Harrogate Gundogs Club and we are always looking out for land to train on.
Ideally we need a mix of ground, including a large grass field we can do basic training on but also some woodland and/or moorland where we can train their hunting and searching skills (on dummies not game) and a river or lake would be ideal for water training.
The grass needs to be relatively free of "manure" as it tends to affect the dogs nose and be very distracting to them as they stop what they are being asked to do while they stop to have a sniff!
We use starting pistols and dummy launchers so there can be a little noise but it's quite infrequent.
We take great care around sheep and part of the training is getting them steady to sheep so the dogs will always be under close control to avoid any issues.
Our sessions usually take place once a month on a Sunday from around 9.30am until 1.30pm though it does vary and we do arrange other days and full day sessions from time to time.

We already have a number of places to train, including some well known shooting estates so we would not need the land every month. We like to move to different ground as it keeps the training fresh for the dogs who can learn habits when always going to the same place.
We also have to move around due to livestock or game being put out so we will arrange dates that fit in with you and your crops and livestock.
Even just one Sunday per year would be very useful to us.
We usually have about 30 dogs and owners attending and there is a need for parking for roughly 20 cars at present.
We have a wide variety of breeds attend training including HPR's - German Shorthaired and Wirehaired Pointer, Hungarian Vizsla, Weimaraner, Italian Spinone, Bracco Italiano, Labrador Retriever, Spaniels and some rarer breeds.

We are very strict on owners cleaning up after their dogs, though this has never been an issue as our members take a real pride in their dogs and being tidy.

Ideally we would like to be within 45 minutes drive of Harrogate, though we may consider further if it's particularly good ground to train on.
If you have a gundog yourself you can train with us for free and we can give you a small payment for the use of the land, though we are a not-for-profit club set up for the benefit of the members so we don't charge them a lot and just aim to cover expenses.

If you have some ground we could potentially use then please get in touch on here or give me a call on 07702 333323 and we will arrange a visit to see if it's suitable and discuss further.

Cheers,

Chris Carter.
