What needs doing to your landrover??
I have been informed that the td5 is better engine than later engines but you could end up with huge bill

Huge bill for what? Td5 was in production longer than the 200 and 300 put together.
Later models had all known problems such as looms, oil pump bolts etc sorted.
2005 to 2007 td5’s are solid.

Well I bought it new in 2001, and it’s so bloody good, I want it to do another 19 years. Also I would rather spend 30k rebuilding it.than buy a new pick up for 30k and have a pile of worthless scrap after 10 years.
Ok but don't get angry with me ... just be wary of costs.... not too far from here an elderly farmer sent his major tractor to a garage to be restored, he paid £650 for it new and the restoration bill was £5000

New galvanised chassis £1500
Shocks and springs £500
Swivels £250
Labour to swap body over £1500-2000
Total £4k to £5k to end up with something worth about £10k
Cost about £4k to refurb the chassis and running gear on my 300 tdi last year, did the clutch and rear main oil seal and timing belt, did it myself so i've no idea what labour woul've been, also i haven't touched the body work...yet and when you get into paint spraying etc it can get dear pretty quickly.

No I want to spend as little as possible. But want a good job doing and was just comparing what people are spending on pickups that are practically worthless after 10 years.

Wondering where you find the cheap 10 year old pickup if you check autotrader most are about 6 to 7k upwards that would have been what 15k new

We have a 15 year old jap pick up

It’s long been ready for the scrap heap - it’s on engine number 3 and clutch number 3 handles like a boat, leaks oil, water and fumes

This idea they are better than a defender is rather warped imo
