Finally lost patience with endless faults on the landline so have cancelled our contract as we all have mobiles - usually but not always in signal.

However we do have the ex landline number registered with some businesses who very occasionally ring it. Now I have no idea who these businesses are as rarely in the house during working hours so the question is, do I inform all the businesses I deal with that the number is Kaput?

Does anyone else not bother with a landline?

Only 2 types of call come on our landline, I try to ignore both... cold call spammers and my mother

We do, but only get cold calls on it. The next time we update the contract we might do away with it. It serves little purpose.

Fed up to the back teeth with 1960's copper wire, crackling phone, poor internet, and BT's ludicrous fault repair service whereby you have to prove there' s a fault, and prove you are the landline user. Bizarre.
Anyhoo, I'd happily do away with the phone part ( only scam and nuisance calls )......but how do I get internet connection ? There's a few companies setting up connection services, but you Google them, and they have terrible reviews...... Bit like BT then......

Transferred my landline number to a VOIP company (Vonage) and now run it through a 4G router which also give my internet with EE SIM card. Also has an App on mobile phone, so it also rings on that when I'm out. It's been faster and more reliable that the copper was, been on it for about 18 months.
I've also got "Call Control" on my "landline" which lets anyone whose phone number you allow to ring straight in to you, but makes anyone else record a message which you listen to and then decide if you want to talk to them. Scammers never bother to leave a message so you never hear from them. It's been great.

People get rid of the landline as they are so fed up with nuisance calls, so they call us! We still get quite a few calls on the landline though. Personally I wouldn't like to have to depend on a mobile as we have poor reception even so close to a town. Means rushing out of the kitchen onto the lawn.

If you have reasonable intenet service then VOIP is the way to go.
Port your landline number to the VOIP provider is all it takes,.
We use a company called Boxx, there are loads of companies providing a service

What is your call quality like for both end of the VOIP calls? Heard of some issues with Vonage with a friend with a fast BB connection. Last I heard he was switching.

Same here! Dreadful mobile coverage generally in a known bad area. ALL the mobile providers have us greyed out on the coverage maps :(

I suspect I could get a 4G signal with a big antenna on the house, and then feed it to a 4G Router.

What's the point? Just use mobile

Not all mobile phones can connect to WIFI Calling via router, so if you have a poor phone signal indoors, then Voip is an option rather than paying line rentals etc for something one does not use.
Some Voip businesses charge per use only or sell you a pack - no contract, so they are offering a better deal than BT imho.

Changed to EE for the landline, BT own EE . Silage trailer dragged the line down last week, rang EE, within 2 hours Openreach had fixed the line. Impressed!

no idea what the speed is but 4 of us can stream YouTube videos no bother.
he’s also just taken the landline over aswell for a few £ a year I think it was, unfortunately the majority of caravan bookings still come through the landline
