Can anyone confirm that they don't require vernalisation? Preferably with the experience of having drilled them in march!
I appreciate spring oats will grow much faster but given the premium being paid for mascani now they might be worth sticking with.

They’re fine, crack on. Drilled in April before no problem, slow to put seed head out and they’re later to cut than springs bit that’s it. I’d say your better off planting springs though in my experience, they yield more and ripen earlier than spring sown winter varieties. I think other people have had different experiences and will be along in due course but that’s my take on it.

If you have spring oats in the shed then I agree you would be better off sowing them but if you don't at £450+ ton for seed then I think most people will sow winter oats if they still have the seed in the shed!

To help push the crop on would it be worth putting Fert in the seedbed of winter oats like you normally do with Spring Barley etc?

Everything spring sown here gets fert down the spout. Made no difference to spring sown Mascani, they just seem to stall for a while then set off again. Agree tho, if I had mascani in shed and other option of £450/t bought in seed, I’d be sowing the mascani as well.
