Lawrence Edwards Supa Pac

Looking for some advice guys. We make an abnormal bale size, 100x900 (3ftx3ft) round bale, we have a top agro bale wrapper which hasn’t been great. I have the opportunity to use/buy a Lawrence Edwards Supa PAC on cable control. The cables have seen better days and the stretch unit is on plastic rollers. Does anyone know if you can still buy new cables? Also does anyone have a copy of the manual? I’ve got it for the weekend to try wrapping some old bales to see if it works with our bales but could do with a manual to see which way to thread the wrap through the pre stretch.
Thanks in advance

Cables you can buy or get made. Pre stretch unit is obsolete and will cost more than wrapper is worth to replace.

Observe which side of the wrap is the sticky side and mount it on the spindle sticky side to the bale.
Turn the pre stretch unit and now one roller turns faster than the other. The film then goes round the slow one first.

Then when you’ve done all that review how much you value your sanity and go find a better wrapper

I agree with this, but there used to be someone making a much better pre stretcher for these wrappers .Those plastic ones were useless, and never used to last any time.

I think it was £750 or so when I looked a few years ago. Good, though.

£100 of parts (4 bearings, 2 gears, ali box & some shaft) built this.

£250 will buy it, complete with attached wrapper.

would an old machale 991 b or conner 9700 be your best bet as they have an auto cut and tie the parts are avable for her and they would last out at least 100000 bales plus so dont be afraid of them far better on than a blue tanco or laerence edwards im in the sam boat trying to find a balerv and wrapper for 18 thousand ive settled on them to brands of wrapper

Lawrence Edwards is quite a well engineered thing, think even the slew ring is off a mini digger. I put a new Film-Technique 750mm dispenser on our static one, and no regrets. Yes it was £750, but how far does that go if I'd bought a new wrapper.

Won't a 3x3 haylage bale move around too much on the table of a wrapper designed for 4x4 bales? Unless you intend to modify it to suit?
Would a wrapper designed for squares work better?

I was thinking that. At the very least it would want 500 wrap. 750 would pull a light bale off.
a conventional bale wrapper would probably work

Would definitely need to be 500 wrap. I think a 3x3 bale would be too big for our McHale 995LM, aren't the mini rounds usually something like 2x2?
An old style McHale 995 square wrapper would likely do if the budget is small.
Or modify an old small wheel McHale 991. Remove the belts, replace them with rubber on the rollers like a Fusion, move the 2 rollers in, move the bobbins closer, modify the loading arm, adjust the gearing and stretch unit for 500mm wrap...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and reply’s. The main reason for looking at the Lawrence Edwards is firstly because it’s cheap and with it being an odd sized bale, I wouldn’t be afraid of chopping it to make it work. So I know what I would need in the future. I must agree I have thought about a square conventional wrapper but again, it’s not been tried and tested on this size bale so could be chucking money away on it. Currently I run 500mm wrap, agreed 750 is too much. Another reason for the Lawrence Edwards is the stabilisers I call them (the cones to hold the bale) are adjustable inwards towards the table and is a simple design, meaning I could make longer brackets if need be. Just the stretch unit is outdated and the pick up arm would need to fabrication to bring it in tighter to pick the bale up. Cables are obviously a perishable part which probably should have been changed years ago. Picture of the current wrapper we have been using, you can probably understand the reason for wanting to move away from it asap, my neck can’t take much more reversing up to bales 😂

I feel your pain. I had a gallignani very similar last year. Fortunately only wrapped 6 bales with it to test before it went to Cyprus

Yea that’s why I’m trying to be a tad more prepared this year. Only got the baler last year, upgraded from a 2x1 round bale to a 3x3. Wrapper came as part of the package, but it was so late into the season I had to go with it. Wrapper hasn’t done a great job on last years bales, hence trying to get a bit more prepared before everything starts shooting up. Just testing the wrapper on some already wrapped bales or perished bales to see how it goes before making a decision
