Line boring on excavators etc

I was interested to read on the forum about the use of line boring gear on agricultural equipment as I am in the process of setting up a company to carry out this process on a mobile basis. I have worked as a fitter with farmers and noticed the enormous array of tools they have to hand to keep their business running and noticed one post that referred to the high cost of line boring equipment. Obviously the requirement for such a service will be infrequent so the layout for a farm to buy the kit may not be considered worthwhile. The mobile boring business will be based in Staffordshire the main man being an ex JCB machinist well versed in line boring, Welding, turning and milling so the preparation of sleeves for either shrink fir or interference fit is no problem. Please post if such a service is of interest.

I had my 3.5 tonner done about this time last year, couldn’t find anyone to come to me to do it. After searching about looking for someone a mate put me onto an old bloke in a shed that does abit of machining. He did a cracking job of it but it wasn’t quick (about 3 weeks he had the kingpost) and it wasn’t cheap either !.

Would you like me to put a machinist in touch to quote or view the job ? If so text me a contact name and number to 07874327861 and I will sort it - he is an ex JCB man so probably familiar with the machine.

Depends how much time you have but I’ve seen a few homemade efforts whilst out in Western Aus years back.

Mag drill with some bearings welded in place for guidance and a home brew boring bar with bits clamped along its length.

I am sure there is a market for such a service when the word is spread around the trade - I am based in Chester so will pass your details on.

What’s the most cost effective way of taking the slack out of the bottom pin in a Q-Fit boom? Rear pivot pin has some wear too.

Approximate rate or cost?
