Might have to grow some Linseed this year. We run a NH CR 9090 will it cope with it or will it end in tears ?

Linseed is like rope. Whatever you do make sure you've the drum(s) well opened up - we broke a main drum shaft a number of years ago on a Deutz combine after cutting linseed. It can gather on knife bar in a lump and if you let the lump go through the machine, there is no give in it - you might as well put a wooden post through the machine. so you just need to be very careful when harvesting. Separation we found wasn't much different to separating oilseed rape. just cutterbar and threshing mechanism were the areas we found problematic. New machnes probably have much better cutting and feed abilities than our old Deutz!

No reason why not. I've cut linseed with a single rotor S Series JD and an Axial Flow. Once you've got it into the header that's normally the tricky bit over with. You've got good rethreshers for the bolls with a CR too. If it won't cut and feed, walk away and do something else. Mine took 2 weeks to do 2 acres but did the other 98 acres in a day of hot wind & sunshine.

I've cut plenty with a CR9080. It will handle it fine.
Make sure that you turn off the chaff spreader and fold it down as straw can get wrapped round the shafts and set on fire (speaking form experience)
The usual sharp knife and i run an angle grinder down the inside of the knife fingers.

Do you fine your CR thrashes the Linseed ok? Someone told me they used to get high losses with their CR.

9080 managed it a piece of pee.

I'm a strong supporter of the "get it in the shed and sort it after". So cut all the boils off, cart them to a drying floor, blow till crisp, then run them back through the rotors. Can sell you a custom plywood elevator adapter for that purpose from our old 9080.....

If you leave the Linseed to ripen too much the straw will fluff up in the combine, trapping the seed which leads to high losses. I desiccated with Glyphosate and cut when the base of the stalk was still slightly green. No wrapping whatsoever even when cloudy and could cut at about 7kph which resulted in more even feed into the combine.

Try this. Nil field losses. Get it cut, heap the straw, burn it, rip it up and get wheat in. Take boils and an inch of stalk if needed. Then sort it out later.

I would hazard a guess that a rotary combine will deal with linseed better than some of the alternatives.

As said, desiccate the stuff and cut it when the weather is with you. Linseed is a weird crop, on a good day you will cut 50 acres in the blink of an eye. In a damp day you won't cut 5 acres of it.

You must ensure the crop is as free from broad leaved weeds as possible unless you are adept at changing slip clutches.
