Livestock box towing troubles

I got an ifor Ta5 12ft here and i haven't done many trips with it , but i've experienced the wobbles a couple of times now, once with 24 lambs just on the bottom, and yesterday when empty, both times were on A roads at around 50 mph, anyone else experienced it with these trailers ? Trailer would be running slightly high on the hitch but not by much, TIA

Make sure the rear tyre pressures on your towing vehicle are ii the region of 35-40 psi.

Had a major wobble last year with my 12" DP , one side of the trailer off the ground, looked like 45 degrees in the mirror.Don't know how I landed it .I bought new shocks all round on the way home and when I fitted them , one of the front ones was very weak.

So ,check your shocks and maybe upgrade rear springs.

What sort of speed were you going and were you loaded ?

My understanding is that trailer snaking ( without tyre issues, hitch height disparities, tow vehicle weight etc) is most likely with uneven loads, particularly lack of weight at the front of the trailer relative to the rear. I would suggest putting at least one beast, preferably two behind a well forward set partition and in this case the heifer on her own at the back. Obviously will make loading more of a faff but may prevent a bigger problem during transport.

Is your trailer hitch too high or low.on my hilux I’ve had to put 65mm spacers between hitch and chassis on both trailers and the ball is at its lowest possible point on my truck.weight too far back can also cause your issues

Hi lux weighs over a tonne so doe's the trailer that only leaves less than 1 and a half tonnes of the load. 2 cull cows and a finnished heifer may well have been considerably more than that. My take is that you were overloaded that time

I would say the hitch being too high shifting the weight more rearward would be the problem, it should put more weight on the drawbar but I’m not sure. I guess the sheep were punched up tight in the front? All too easy to load them against a dividing gate and shut the backdoor rather than shuffle them up and shut the dividing gate first.

I've had it with our 14 foot Nugent stock box both empty and full behind my Disco 4. Mainly due to poor roads I would say, can be very alarming if you are not a confident tower
