I am just wondering how those poor souls in London must feel to watch the fun and games in the centre tonight. pay £12.50 to drive your child to hospital when they have breathing issues thanks to the smoke from the fireworks
Thing is they will be carbon neutral fireworks ,its all bollards

I did not stay up to watch the new year. But as an Irish person I would always tune in to watch the London celebration. It is always amazing and a great spectacle. You should be very proud and I think it does far more for your tourism brand than it costs to put on. There is always more sensible things to spend money on. But when they built the Eiffel tower in Paris I am sure they could of spent the money on healthcare education etc.

That’s exactly the point. Doing something, such as a New Year light show, to a very high standard, which will inevitably attract global TV coverage, is pure marketing gold dust.
What I saw on TV from London, completely outshone anything else from any country.
Sadly I guess, in the land of todays Britain, there can by zero consensus on anything. It’s nothing other than a constant whinge fest and blame game. Tory vs Labour. Tory and Labour vs Farage/Reform. Tory vs Tory. Remain vs Leave.
Paddy doesn’t do the N Year light thing, but he does manage to get many global iconic buildings lit up in emerald green for Paddy’s day. From Dublin to London, to Paris, to Vienna, to Madrid, to Berlin, to Washington DC, to Shanghai, to Sydney, to Dubai etc, etc,. Bord Bia (food marketing agency), Bord Failte, (tourism agency), backed by a slew of government ministers, absolutely take full advantage, to market the daylights out of the country.
Brits prefer to bicker and do each other down. Silly really, but that’s what it has come to.

I saw the NYE fireworks in person back when I was at university in 2011 and it was fantastic (well worth getting there super early to get a decent spot down by the river) and didn't cost a penny. Now Mayor Khunt has the most popular areas cordoned off and charges £20 per ticket to get in.

Big talking point...
Two faced Kant is dead against proof of identity requirements for voting in elections but apparently insisted on proof of identity for obtaining/using your said tickets?

Fireworks on New Year Day and its image is nothing but an expensive farce and a fire risk, ffs fireworks in summer is nothing less than the height of stupidity.
Would I watch it on TV, probably not but the aerial has been fecked since late 2019....

Unbelievable.
