Loss of Bps

There has been a consistent commitment from Govt, most recently just last week, that the £3Bn for farmers is still there. The issue at this point in time is the failure to get ELMS right, no more no less. Yes, it's frustrating right now, but they will get there.
ELMS and SFI were deliberatly made to fail, with to onerous of conditions and stupidly low rates of money. That way the goverment could say the money was offered but farmers didnt want it.

The land you farm is the asset, it's up to you to make the most of it. Maybe producing food at or near cost isn't the best use of that land. Doesn't mean you should go bust but It might mean you should look at other revenue avenues the land can provide rather then holding your hand out for benefits just to produce food below cost of production.

We should be able to make our own way in the world without social security.

It's the corporate food system not government support which holds the key to farm profitability.
All very good in theory, but with the rest of the world subsidising farmers we need our subs to stay on equal terms to compete.
As for corperate food systems they will buy the cheapest wheather it is NZ lamb argantinian Beef or Russian wheat.

Nope. ELMS has been a cock up, not a conspiracy.

It was a mess 14 months ago when they launched the first SFI pilots. Those standards were unworkable. The SFI was a third of the money, LNR and LR another third each.

If it was designed to fail, then they would have stuck to that initial layout. Instead, look at the changes that have been made.
Those initial SFI standards: Gone
LNR: Gone
LR: Gone.

Yes, it has been an absolute shambles. But deliberately designed to fail ? No.

As I said, they will get there. They would have got there a lot quicker if farmers had taken co-design at face value and submitted positive proposals, rather than the true-to-form whingeing.

I would like others views on the reduction of Bps payments and the un fairness of this when Scottish farmers are seeing no change in their payments aswell as European countries. I am getting really annoyed at the lack of any union that is really standing up for us. The Nfu may as well be called No F**King Use....and the government couldn't care any less about agriculture.....I wish we could be more like the French and cause some chaos to make people stop and listen.....May seem a rant but getting very frustrated with the industry at moment and would like to hear others views.
Took 20% of us and feck all to show, what a fecking shower of pansies this government are. It was always going to happen when we left the EU unfortunately.

bit of devils advocate, but is it right that for the privilage of owning 1000 acres of land you recieve a payment of 85k,i know there are lots of tenants on here and people owning alot less but most i know that farm that own that area have two foreign holidays per year send ,children too public school and drive a top of the range 4x4, try selling that too someone on a housing estate struggling too get by,and you cant say they get cheap food because there is no requirement to spend it on production,
