Loss of Bps

I would like others views on the reduction of Bps payments and the un fairness of this when Scottish farmers are seeing no change in their payments aswell as European countries. I am getting really annoyed at the lack of any union that is really standing up for us. The Nfu may as well be called No F**King Use....and the government couldn't care any less about agriculture.....I wish we could be more like the French and cause some chaos to make people stop and listen.....May seem a rant but getting very frustrated with the industry at moment and would like to hear others views.
Apparently “We voted for it” !

bit of devils advocate, but is it right that for the privilage of owning 1000 acres of land you recieve a payment of 85k,i know there are lots of tenants on here and people owning alot less but most i know that farm that own that area have two foreign holidays per year send ,children too public school and drive a top of the range 4x4, try selling that too someone on a housing estate struggling too get by,and you cant say they get cheap food because there is no requirement to spend it on production,
Not had a holiday for 3 years, no private schooling, only got acres because sacrifices were made and hard work put in, 1000 acres doesnt pay for itself, every farm has people to pay out, is 85k a good return on asset value to provide these layabouts on the council estates with their cheap food?

We should be able to make our own way in the world without social security.

It's the corporate food system not government support which holds the key to farm profitability.
Yep. It's the same old problem. Only a few of us can get promissory contracts to produce in advance to ensure a decent RoR. Most of us produce and trust the market price will make it worth our while. As people keep saying on this forum: if only we could all agree to organise. And then others then quite rightly chime in and say it'll never happen. More direct sales will be the answer for us.

There has been a consistent commitment from Govt, most recently just last week, that the £3Bn for farmers is still there. The issue at this point in time is the failure to get ELMS right, no more no less. Yes, it's frustrating right now, but they will get there.
Its 2.4 billion.. what happened to the 0.6 billion

Good luck with changing it.
We cant change it as we now supply the supermarkets or we export into the world markets.. Neither of which look very exciting in a country where cost of production per Ha is about £233 more than other countries.. BPS was sensible because it allowed farmers to invest profits back into the UK economy.. That will stop with no BPS

Yes Scotland getn the same for a few years yet, as everyone knows if upland and hill places lost the sub that would be the end for most, when the scottish government computers didn't work years ago it was a near disaster as no sub for 14months. It will be less and connected to the environment after 2025, need to be a safety net type payment of some sort still. Headage or acres.

The scottish govt allowed landlords to evict tenants and then apply as “new entrants” for bps.
Lots of scottish farmers now not only have no bps, but they have no land either.
