LPG or oil for new boiler

Trouble is tenants don’t tend to want to spend money on any kind of heating.
That's your problem right there, no matter what system creates the heat, the costs can tempt the Tennant to switch off.

One on farm setup I know of the owner orders oil for every house tank at the same time making sure every tank is full, low usage will trigger a house inspection and they all win with a bulk buy discount.

Lpg,is far more economical than oil i think ,the boiler is half the size ,no smell, and you can fix your gas price for as lonv as you like
I think all lpg contracts are 2 year deals and nearly all guarantee that they won't put the price up by more than Xppl after 12 months .... guess whether they do or not!
Many contracts also have a 'special circumstances' get out clause to allow them to 'adjust' the price as and when they wish

Yes and the oil companys are angels,
You aren't tied to a particular oil company, whereas with LPG, you are

Last time i bought heeating oil in the last cold winter it was 90p a litre ,i fixed my gas againlast year at 31p for 3 years
A litre of oil and a litre of LPG are not comparable.

fair enough, but after being involved in the fitting of a hundred or so boilers in the last five years i know which one i would have ,and i do

I'd probably plump for oil.

In the worst case IE prolonged bad weather you can lead fuel in yourself.
And a leak won't blow up your house...
A leak may not blow your house up ,but a leak in oil pipes will burn your house down ,we had to clear up a leaking oil pipe last year ,6000 tons of contaminated soil.35000 quid clean up ,i eill stick with gas thanks

i think if my memory serves me correctly lpg needs to be about 2/3 price of oil per litre .if you google calorific value it should come up, and has heating oil ever been 90p as that would almost be derv price

It was 90p for panic buyers one cold winter a few years ago, most buyers have never paid above 50p and its usually less than 40p in the summer months.

If you intend letting it and it's an old rural property you'll need an EPC rating of 39 points or more by April or you can't let it. We fitted LPG to 2 cottages last year as was told Gas was better for thermal efficiency and would get more points. Turns out lPG is less efficient than oil (they meant mains gas).
Lpg has been great in one house and not the other due to its lack of wall insulation. Split decision really.

What about anthracite grain hopper boilers. The tenants can buy 1 bag or 1 ton of fuel as suits them. If you’re renting it out the price of gas, oil, or economy 7 electric is not your concern
