Luck money

So a beef finisher or similar that bought decent numbers each week at market could end up with a fair amount of cash in his pocket.
Sales go through the business and they have their cash for the week.
Doesn't sound dodgy at all:whistle::rolleyes:
Yes some will be earing over 1k a week in luck money, they must put it through books, some make their entire living of it id say, these guys dont buy stock of them that dont give it, can you blame them ?

Its hardly up there with Costas, Google and Amazon in terms of dodging tax is it, a handful of old codgers shuffling a few coins and small notes? Although it wouldn’t surprise me if HMRC spent more resource chasing it than they do the aforementioned.

Always give luck, what pisses me off is when they ask for more.

Ah come on lad, you can give me more then that, that’s a hell of a price I paid for them

No one forced you, fudge off
Reminds me of years ago when my dad sold some store cattle....he went and gave the buyer some luck money and the guy said I want more than that. Dad said you’re not getting more, so he turned radge...dad said if you’re not happy tell them in the office you don’t want them and I’ll take them home...that soon shut him up

View attachment 710750I was selling 200 of these. And the pen he bought only made £105. I don’t mind giving luck but though it was off being asked and told I had to get some cash out.
I give luck, but only if I think they haven’t been begged. They don’t get luck for paying bugger all.
With fat cattle at mart I leave it in office and tell the girl which cattle to attach it to.
Don’t tip on sheep unless I’m feeling generous, but I do a charity lamb/ heifer each year

Had that a few years ago with a bull. Bought a young stock bull to do a season after mine dislocated his hip. Sold him for £800 less (about £1500) the following spring. Gave the buyer (a dealer) a fiver he said “I want more than that”, I said “you must be joking, you were bidding against me for him 12 months ago, I’ve saved you £800!”

Don't blame them at all, I'd do it,its the listening to them pleading poverty all the time that wears a bit thin:sick:

I'm sure it goes through the books though:ROFLMAO:

Obviously some wont but their are some very big players in the cattle world times of year they will be raking in a lot of luck they would be fool hardy if they dont declare a good proportion of it.

I always leave luck on tups I sell in the office, and if I sell breeding ewes If somebody asks for it give them a few quid, but I can understand people selling fat lambs looking for the dealer to give him a few quid , why the hell would you need luck on a animal thats going to be dead by the end of the week

I made a decision a couple of years ago not to give luck money when selling sheep, in stead I give the fist and best sheep to charity.
I was selling theaves in market last week (not a great trade but that's another story) when someone came up to me saying that he had bought a pen of sheep and wanted his luck. I explained my system to him but he said that i had to give him luck and got very irate with me insisting that i drove to a cash point to get him his money. ( the one thing i didn't wish him was any luck on the sheep for being so rude).
I didn't give him any money and told him where to go, has anyone else been in this situation before?
I'd have told him to do one

I do believe in giving a token amount of luck

It should be given and received discretely, politely and with good grace
