Lush spring barley

Probably combine, I've seen it go completely flat and not been able to harvest it, would prefer to put something on it but no idea if it would harm the peas

Terpal is one of those PGR that you need a magic ball for, if you firefight just as awns emerge you stop it in its track and head is slow to emerge from leaf sheath and if weather turns wet you can it can damage grains
If you have lush crop with expectation of more rain and rapid growth and variety such laureate I would just do it
We had a dry may but now we have got rain and crops are turning into silage with rapid growth as soil N becomes available

Yeah it can happen. Normally needs really well fed with fym and good ph levels to achieve it.

Variety's have varied and just feed barley not malting

Laureate. Field that’s had lots of muck and a dose of paper lime. Made malting last year since the 1.65 limit was raised to 1.75. Just made it away.

Have seen in previous years the better crops had lower nitrogen levels from be able to use more up.

Very possible. I've averaged 3.5 in the past at full malting spec so for better farmers on better land in wetter parts of the country it's doable.

Only the once! And that was a year not long after i finished college where everything seemed to do well.

I have nudged 3 a time or two but normally 2.5/2.75 apart from last year which just scraped 2t..... and this year which will probably only scrape 1!!!

Don't worry. I've never grown a 4t crop of spring barley either. Haven't even done much over 3.5t. Plenty muck, plenty N. Right ph.

We must be sh!t farmers.

It can happen. In small parts of fields, but not a field average.

If you could average 4tonne of malting barley, I don't think you would worry about growing anything else
