Makita garden strimmer has been playing up lately and decided it didn't owe me anything, must have had it 10+ years. Quick Google and I bought what seemed the nearest new model.

Arrived yesterday - £110 including next day delivery, pretty sure the old one was nearer £200. For the price I was expecting the quality to be a bit iffy, but it's very well made.

They stopped after the Californian regs on emissions drove them out the market .

How can the state of california put them out of a market. They have the rest of the world or at least the rest of the western world to sell to so how could a law chsnge in 1 state which may i add isnt even the biggest state have this big of an affect

California is one of the most effluent markets in North America. The economy of that state is larger than some entire countries elsewhere on the globe.

If California regulates something heavily, companies tend to react and take note of it.

I've never understood the whole state vs federal laws thing in the USA as I consider them nonsensical. You're effectively paying for legislation at two levels and getting stumped by both.

California have banned all small engine production on garden machinery , forcing folks to buy battery powered tools ,,same goes for their cars .The days of modifying have gone and any imported vehicle ,has to meet their tight emission regs .
Ever watch wheeler dealers ,,they are all ways on about cars that have been bought from out of the state ,have to go through rigorous tests to be legal ,or the ones that have been used in california and sold out of state ,,having to set them back up to how they should be ,giving them more power ,better exhaust systems .
