Magnesium Bolus? sheep

Do any of you guys use mag bolus's for your ewes, we suffer terribly from grass staggers, we can cure it in a dry year with mag flakes in the troughs, but in a wet year like last year the sods drank out of puddles and ponds that formed about the place an ignored the troughs, so thinking a bolus should cover them best.

Anyone got any recommendations.

We do put out various blocks as well, they don't seem to like the high mag molasses based ones, am going to try some high mag salt based blocks, as well as mag in the water, along side bolus, as from what I read you can't overdose on mag, so would rather spend a bit more than loose ewes to staggers.

get an albrecht test done, we had the exact same problem. spreading kieserite at the recomended rate pretty much sorted it. we had a few fields that were only 2-3 % mg and over the last few years we have got them up to 8-9%. any field that had more k than mg as % will be where you have problems. it's the only soil test that answered the problem for us. plus it's easier spread kieserite that continually doseing etc. set a budget and spread as much as you can.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
