Yes, I think it is needed, although we’ve had 20 mm since yesterday. Some have hah next to nothing. Early enough for maize drilling.
I agree there is plenty of time to be drilling maize yet.

What the fudge is all that?? You just plough it and put maize straight in?
How’s the soil temperature @Wilberforce .
Have you been tempted yet
I’ve been working down today, and getting some drilled tomorrow .Soil temp there or thereabouts. Drilled a block last Tues before the rain, photo on the TAW thread. Peat ground will be done early next week, plenty early enough yet.
Just been past your place on way to hire company, maize drills going everywhere and plenty drilled.
Grew it for two years, but not last harvest. Good yielding variety, but very leggy and difficult to keep standing.Silverfox, forgot to ask how your annapolis went?
It’s a steep bank, with sand at the top , so have to do it by going up the less steep bit and back down the steepest. At times the packer on the power Harrow stops turning, as there’s not enough bite in the soil .Silverfox is that a steep bank or is that a steep bank when it shows in the photo?
