Manitou 730-120 issue

Hi

Have a Manitou 730-120 powershift 02 reg that has a problem whenever it is in 4th or 5th gear in that it keeps blowing the fuse (F8) and looses drive. It doesn't happen straight away but maybe after about a minute in those gears, it is not a problem in any of the other gears.

Local dealer has been out and checked everything like the solenoids, forward/reverse lever, speed sensor, etc even tried a new powershift gear lever and thinks it could be the controller / ecu / black box mounted under the beam against the cab.

Unfortunately Manitou no longer stock or supply the black box so thought I would ask anyone on here if they had any ideas where I could get one from?

Looking into getting the box sent away to be repaired but could be unlikely and we're not 100% that the box is the problem.

Unfortunately there's no machine in the dealers yard that is similar to ours to even just swap just to try it at the minute.

Any ideas??

I suggest you find the wires powering 4th and 5th solenoids on the ECU. Cut them and join some new temporary wires on to the plugs on these 2 solenoids. This will rule out that side of wiring loom.

It will be made slightly more complicated by the 5th gear block switch for towing trailer. So you should check that wiring too. Maybe fit 2 new solenoids as well to rule them out. ECU would be the last thing I would suspect imo never known one fault.

If you have access to a 6 speed ECU then that may work! Your transmission is actually a 6 speed! But the ECU is programmed to skip 5th gear and a actually jumps from 4th to 6th on yours even though its displayed as 5th on the led display it's really 6th.

The only thing that puts any doubt in my mind if the 6 speed ECU would work on yours is all the 6 speeders use the JSM joystick not the shuttle lever.

Thanks for that.

Just to give you a bit more detail on the problem, if i’m in neutral and the power shift lever is in 4th the telehandler will not move when the lever is moved into forward or reverse, on the gear display it just comes up with a letter C. However if i’m moving in 3rd and turn the power shift lever into 4th on the move it goes into 4th!

Does any of that help

C is crawler gear solenoid, that is the once odd solenoid that sits lower down from the rest all on its own. IMO I not 100% sure what it does! they don't have a crawler gear that I have ever seen? I wonder if it has something to do with the 5th gear block switch for towing trailers?
