Manitou 735 starting problem

I have a manatee 735 which intimately fails to start on the key. We attached a wire to the start of motor and then touch it on the battery and it starts up. It will stop with the key and then will go to start it again, nothing after a few weeks you jump on the machine and it’ll start on the key again obviously electrical issue replaced the ignition barrel no difference ,any ideas thanks

What ages and what engine?

Possibly you either dont have enough current getting down the purple wire to the starter solenoid to slam the solenoid across connecting main battery power to motor or the solenoid on starter isnt very good.

if its a perkins try disconnecting the cold start glow plugs and see if that improves the power supply to the solenoid.
couple of multi plugs tucked under the dash too that are connected to leads from the fuse board, normally up behind the steering orbital unit hydraulic hoses so a right pain to get at sometimes. them plugs burn out. Also look at the maga fuses and the holder terminals by the battery as the terminals can get burnt too.

Could replace your saftey start relay, check the f/r switch etc

Your not saying if its simply not attempting to crank or if its trying.

If its a deutz engine then they will not crank if the low fuel pressure side isnt primed, so check fuel and the electric pump.

It’s a Perkins 2010 it didn’t start on the key for a while then suddenly it came back to life on the key for a few weeks now back to putting a wire straight onto the battery from the starter motor

So if its not even attempting to start on the key then you need to look at the F/R switch and the safety start relay in the fuse box.

you can once you id the pin out on the safety start relay, jump it across to tempory bypass it just to test wiring from there down to starter so you can figure out which side of the relay the fault is.

That makes sense thank you will try that

I don’t think it’s starter as it always starts hot or cold on the wire we’ve put straight to the battery just some connection between the ignition barrel and the starter I think

I know of a machine that will not crank off the key unless the cold start thermostart plug is disconnected, that is an older machine than yours though so slightly different and obvoiusly has either not enough power to the ignition switch to do both or these a dead short on the thermostart plug wiring.
Yours has glow plugs and a glow plug relay though so abit different set up as glow plug relay uses a direct feed of the battery rather than the cab circuit.

I’m sure it’s an electrical issue as most things are nowadays just need to identify it thanks for replying
