Manitou MLA 628 120 LSU engine surging

New member. I'd be grateful for advice from anyone regarding a problem I'm having with my Manitou loader. The seems to be surging intermittently. Sometimes while at idle and sometimes with some throttle, but not at high engine speed. Seems worst at around 1100 - 1200 rpm. Engine speed goes up and down by a few hundred rpm. Also, when operating the hydraulic services for the loader the engine seems to really labour. Worst when lowering the boom or tipping the headstock down. I thought it might be a fuel problem so changed the fuel filter and water separator element but no better. Is there a third filter/gauze in the tank or lift pump? Any other ideas? Many thanks.

Don't they have a hydraulic swash plate controller linked to the throttle? Wondered if that maybe messing about and putting load on somewhere.

anyhow @ACEngineering is going to be your man, he knows this stuff inside out.

welcome to the mad house by the way (y)

Assuming it's a series 3.

Replace the electric lift pump and fuel pipes to tank.
